If I can only pick three, I'll choose Furtwangler (1951), Toscanini/NBC (1952) and Peter Maag/Orch. di Padova; followed very closely by Furtwangler (1954), Karajan/BPO (1977) and Szell/Cleveland. If not for the recording quality, I'll rather take Weingartner/VPO (1935) than Karajan. I think Stokowski's reading should also be included in the list. |

To quote one observer, "Good sound and inspired performance seem mutually exclusive." Amen! Dedicated audiophiles would rather listen to silence than bad sound; record collectors will put up with awful sound if the music is worth listening to. :) George |

Stokowksi transcription of classics was always exciting and challenging to audio systems, apart from the famous disc on `Rhapsodies', there are a few issued by Naxos recently playing Stokowski transciption of various music by Stokowski's assistent Jose Serebrier. The recording was in demonstration quality, very good for testing HiFI and very exciting musically.  |

| [#2343] 狂想曲 Picked up a Heifetz/Brooks Smith recording playing Saint Saen violin sonata, a rarely heard piece. You may not like his big concertos but Heifetz had charm and lyricism playing those small pieces and lesser known works, besides his technique was impeccable, with sweet singing tone radiate from his Guarnari, a test to one's system. Next was Brahms Sym. no.3 with Boston Sym. Orchestra conducted by Leinsdorf, a much neglected conductor. His Brahms 3 was good , with the right balance between emotion and structural integrity. However it still cannot displace my alltime favourite,Reiner. |

| [#2345] 狂想曲 邊個邊個, I now live in Shatin, my shop still in Tin Hau. Move near to my mother's home for better caring of baby. Last night, I test my DVD player with a DVD of Rigoletto after conneting all the cables. However I was immediately attracted by the beautiful music written by Verdi and the heart breaking story written by Victor Hugo. Pavorotti was young looking at the time of the film and still convincing to act as Duke, the picture quality was excellent and it was a film with music instead of live recording in a opera house. The Sound recording was of the highest audiophoil quality. Highly recommended to all opera fans.
