[#227] 古CD機同好會 Hi, Mike. I have done quite a bit of modifications, especially to my Marantz CD95 as I don't think I will ever sell it. The mod. that I think is safe, revertible and over 99% provide improvement is the clock mod. Changing op amps. is hard to say. Some of the old Philips CD uses old NE5534, which can be excellent in sound. It will not be as fast as the new op amps but they have a 'tube like' sound for selected quantities. Power supply is an area that can provide a lot of improvement but there are a lot of variations from changing caps to blackgate and OSCON (especially in the digital section), 7805/7815 etc. to LT1085 etc., dedicated supply for clock, etc. |

[#232] 古CD機同好會 yukclee, Thanks for your sharing. Isn't it fun to do the modifications? I guess it's like building your version of a CD player. For your own use, it can be truly experimental and rewarding. But if you intend to sell it in the future, it might be troubles! Haha. So you're smart enough to give up the idea of selling your heavily modified CD95. As an amateur, I don't think I dare to modify anything of my CD players. However, I'd like to change my MCD Pro back from 117V to 220V. Do you or any other "high hands" can tell me if this is very difficult and dangerous to do? (The seller told me that it shouldn't be hard to a qualified electronic man and so it's not necessary to bring it to Meridian to do the voltage restoration. But as I'm only an amateur, I doubt if I can do it... :P) Your kindest advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

[#237] 古CD機同好會 Hi, Mike. Believe it or not, if I want to, I can revert all my mods in the CD95 to its original condition. It would be time consuming though. For the MCD Pro, it was definitely designed to be a 240V machine. I haven't traced the power transformer in the Philips CD101 portion but as the little transformer in the bottom chassis has 2 primary windings that you can change easily to 240V. It is hard to tell you exactly how to do it. I suggest you to take it to AV Walkman at Shatin (Tel.: 26868737). They will do it for a few hundred dollars only and besides, I don't think Excel will service your Meridien MCD PRO anymore. |

[#239] 古CD機同好會 Hi all, I think we should not focus on only the vintage CDP or not, everything will become vintage if out of production some day. Now, it seems less & less Manufacturers will invest further in high end pure CD player, so we are looking back to the old days.....& praise to the classic vintage CDP. I have experience in lot of vinatge CD player like Philips & Marantz product, now I still keep some nice old things but it is not purely because it is good sound, it is because it is my hobby & the value of collect them>value of its sound! Museum quality for everything cannot judge it value. So, I will keep only the pristine condition (100% working + 100% handsome) in my collection. Revox, Philips, Marantz, will definately not made the HIGH ENDED CDP in the future, so the classic product, CD15, CD16, CD23, LHH1000, LHH2000, CD100, CD63, CD23, CD7, B226....are the good one if still can find the good one! Urgly one will become garabage & finish some day. B. R. |
