| [#2448] Dutoit For Ravel's Daphnis et Chloe, besides that by Dutoit and Pierre Monteux, another version not to be missed is by Andre Cluytens directing the Paris Consevatoire Orchestra,my favourite. Made in 1963 by EMI,Cluytens' account is full of colours and drama that is of utmost importance in Ravel's work. Backed by the examplary EMI sound,he unfolded layers and layers of orchestral details that is so vivid giving the hallucinations of players dancing in front of you. |

| [#2449] In the mood of scottish fantasy 《蘇格蘭幻想曲》是德國著名的浪漫派作曲家布魯赫（Bruch）的不朽之作。它不像一般德奧作品的艱深嚴肅，反之還處處洋溢著夢幻般的迷朦與淒美。如果你有一個感性浪漫的靈魂，相信你一定會深深地愛上這首小提琴曲。 《蘇格蘭幻想曲》是由一個引子和四個樂章所組成，每一個樂章都採用一首蘇格蘭民歌作2主題，旋律平易近人，非常好聽。四個樂章所採用的民歌分別2淒美的《老羅賓. 莫奡窗n、詼諧的《嘿，渾身塵土的磨房主》、哀怨的《我2失去了喬尼而悲傷》及古老的蘇格蘭戰歌《勝利的蘇格蘭人》。 這首小提琴曲的新錄音雖然不少，但我要介紹的卻是一個45年前（一九六二年九月十三及十四日）的錄音（唱片編號Lim XR24 015），演奏者是俄羅斯小提琴大師David Oistrakh，負責伴奏的是倫敦交響樂團，指揮2Jascha Horenstein。 聽慣Heifetz富於浪漫色彩且流暢的音色後，回頭再聽David Oistrakh演奏，你將發現他的音色端莊質樸、真情流露，沒有虛浮與媚俗；他的琴聲甜暖渾厚而又不失纖細，演奏絲絲入扣。在第一樂章堙A除了如泣如訴的獨奏小提琴之外，淒美迷朦的伴奏弦樂，音色如幻如夢，令人心醉！我知道某些資深的樂迷會堅持Heifetz 的最正! 因為 Oistrakh 的音色很甜很漏, 但偉大的傑作應當容釵h種詮釋演奏方法! 《蘇格蘭幻想曲》除了演奏精彩之外，錄音更是發燒! 原來它出自Kenneth Wilkinson的手筆！發燒友也酗˙{識Bruch，但不可能不知道大名鼎鼎的錄音師Kenneth Wilkinson。他的錄音都展現出一貫寬闊的舞臺及空間感，在一套調校得宜的set-up，你將發現音場的深度及闊度破牆而出，非常驚人！此外，他的錄音都具有堂皇的音色，樂器間的空氣感生動逼真，定位歷歷在目，低頻雄渾低潛，富有彈性！ 《蘇格蘭幻想曲》是FIM向英國Decca取得母帶後，以XRCD 24bit Super Analog的方式處理，並壓制成XRCD。在我的120ft房堙A以Quad QC24 + 909配搭KEF103/4 coaxial喇叭，寬闊深遂的音場超越了我的斗室，最教我驚訝的莫過於雄渾舒展的低音，居然出現在同軸喇叭上！雖然FIM以XRCD的最高24bit規格來remaster《蘇格蘭幻想曲》，但小提琴組在演奏強音(Forte)時，音色仍嫌尖銳，簡璊ㄓFCD edgy的音色.  |

Kenneth Wilkinson has been my idol in recording art when I got a crush on his recording in Handel's water music conducted by Szell (Decca) and Brahms violin concerto played by Szeryng and Monteux (RCA). Erictang also told me that lots of opera Decca or RCA recordings in 1950's-60's were produced by late KW, what a pity that we no longer find any successor after his posthumous demise! George |

| [#2453] In the mood of scottish fantasy KW 的佳作如林，他留下的一組錄音師還不錯，現在都各散東西了。 當年的錄音，錄音師如何放話筒十分重要，現在很多是一組樂器一組話筒，全部數碼錄音混音，甚至可以把一件樂器加上去，錄音技巧已經從錄音室的處理轉到數碼處理的技巧了。 當年出名的還有EMI 的兩位Christopher，不少好錄音也是在這兩位手中出來。 |

| [#2454] Dutoit Charles Dutoit and the Montreal Symphony give a superb performance of this seven-movement suite scored for large orchestra which vividly depicts seven planets, opening with the menace of Mars, the Bringer of War, and ending with the mysterious ethereal Neptune, The Mystic, with its wordless distant womens' voices. Inbetween we have Venus, the Bringer of Peace, Mercury, the Winged Messenger, Jupiter, the Bringer of Jollity, Saturn, the Bringer of Old Age, and Uranus, the Magician. The music gives engineers ample opportunity for sonic display and this recording, dating from 1986, is one of the sonic blockbusters from London/Decca. The organ pedal notes in Mars, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune will shake your floor. The CD jacket shown is the original issue which currently is available only as an UK import.  |

| [#2464] Bruch's Scottish fantasy Last night listened Bruch's scottish fantasy after reading George's excellent review. Although Lin do not have Heifetz virtuosity or Oistrakh creamy tone, his tone was sweet and colorful, he was not as passionate as vengerov but his playing was polite, elegant and lovely. He was expertly accompanied by Slatkin. Lin was a favorite violinist of Edward Greenfield and all his disc released was immediatlely being awraded a Rosette in Penguin guide, although some may object but Lin can certainly rank with the best violinist in our time.  |
