[#241] Fisher and Pilot 古董同好會 ~ Vintage Amplifier Dear Taimonsing I believe John should demonstrate some of his tone balance skill and emotional expression skill during the listening section. Hope he can give you better idea of why our school believes. Actually, Pilot and Fisher has two very different directions on characteristic of sound, but they are presenting two completely different kinds of beauty on music! Believe John should give you some rough idea on the sound characteristic of Pilot and Fisher, but more important is learned some basic concept about “emotion of music” and learn some “emotional expression skill”. Honestly speaking, many hi-end audiophile believes that the almighty goal of hi-fi is reproduce the “original sound”, but our school is much different because we are focusing on emotion quality of music rather than "sound". It is difficult to explain what is “emotional” in modern hi-fi terms. Since "emotion of music" cannot be measured by specification, but only can be measure by "human ears". Hope the listening section with John can give you better idea and better understanding of this terms! I also hope that he can give you some indication or hence of what is important in hi-fi…! Best regards Alan |

[#245] Fisher and Pilot 古董同好會 ~ Vintage Amplifier I’m working on research about the average family income in U.S. from 1945 to 1965 in order to compare the price of gear in today value. I have located some interesting figure as follows: 1945 – USD2,600.00 per year (approx. USD217.00 per month) 1950 – USD3,300.00 per year (approx. USD275.00 per month) 1955 – USD4,400.00 per year (approx. USD366.66 per month) 1960 – USD5,600.00 per year (approx. USD466.00 per month) 1965 – USD6,900.00 per year (approx. USD575.00 per month) ___________________________ 2005 – USD65,000.00 per year (approx. USD5,415.00 per month) I just calculated some interesting figure for the price of vintage preamps equal to today’s value as follows: Marantz 1 – USD285.00/pr in 1953 and price of today is approx equal to USD4,200.00 Marantz 7C – USD285.00 in 1960 and price of today is approx equal to USD3,300.00 McIntosh C22 – USD279.00 in 1963 and price of today is approx. equal to USD2,600.00 Pilot SP-215 – USD199.50 in 1958 and price of today is approx equal to USD2,300.00 Fisher 80-C – USD199.00/pr in 1955 and price of today is approx equal to USD2,930.00 Fisher 400CX – USD199.50 in 1960 and price of today is approx equal to USD2,300.00 Honestly speaking, the price of gear cannot tell us the actual quality of sound in my limited understanding, but above figure can give you some rough idea for what preamps are under estimated in market value today…! Just my 2 cents…! |

[#246] Fisher and Pilot 古董同好會 ~ Vintage Amplifier Recently, I have purchased a late period Pilot FM-607 and it sounds good to my ear…! Not surprise me that this little tuner is very quiet, sensitive but very stable as traditional of Pilot. The tone is similar to other elder brother AF-824 and AF-723, but this little creature is space saver because it only half size of its elder brothers…! It can receive crystal clear FM signal even far away from radio station far away from China but I only using the internal antenna only…! Personally, I always prefer mono in FM rather stereo. My experience told me that the early period Pilot tuner does not have fine details of high and transparent tone as early period Fisher tuner such as Fisher 50-R, 70-RT and FM90X (Personally, I like three of above model much more than Marantz 10B). By the way, it has very attractive warm, natural, smooth, liquid and very gentle tone. No question that outstanding of warm mid-range is still the selling point of Pilot…! The vintage market price range of Pilot tuner is not expensive on the market today. It’s worth to have a try. |

[#253] Fisher and Pilot 古董同好會 ~ Vintage Amplifier Dear Taimonshing FYI, the original antenna is very interesting paper board with small thin antenna around the paper board. Sorry that the orginal Fisher antenna is an extremely rare item, I don't think you can get that on Ebay or other second hand market. However, it is not difficult to buy the external FM antenna for the 70-RT no the market. Best regards Alan |

[#254] Fisher and Pilot 古董同好會 ~ Vintage Amplifier Dear Taimonshing Fisher 70-RT issued in 1954 and it is the replacement model of Fisher 50-R. The Fisher 70-RT look very much the same as Fisher 50-R, but 70-RT equipped with tone Control. The Fisher 70-RT replaced by Fisher 80-T in 1955, so the production period of 70-RT is not not long! Best regards Alan |

[#258] Fisher and Pilot 古董同好會 ~ Vintage Amplifier of course, It should not be used as a pure preamp. After last time hear the pilot tunner in John home. I really fall in love with the radio sound. It could be very match with my system. |

[#259] Fisher and Pilot 古董同好會 ~ Vintage Amplifier Dear Taimonsing Money back guarantee that FIsher 70-RT will not disappoint you, but it has different sound characteristic than John's Pilot AF-824, it has more details and extension of high, but not as smoother and warm as Pilot AF-824 espeically at mid-low and smoothness of high. Best regards Alan |
