| [#2669] HKPO/EdW/Mahler 6 Talking about Swan Lake, I still remember I once got a Swan Lake LP (by Moscow Radio Philharmonic Orchestra) bought in Shengzhen Xinhua bookstore in early 1980s. The 3 LPs I think is a compete set and are thick and heavy. I gave it to my classmate in early 1990s as i turned to CD. I miss it as I consider the recording is great even in my very cheap all-in-one Pioneer system. Just wonder if anyone can tell where I can locate the LP or CD again?  |

| [#2670] HKPO/EdW/Mahler 6 In the 1980s, being a poor student, I liked to buy LP in SZ Xinhua Bookstore. By that time, there were a lot of PRC version classic for sale, same as the one you got in HK except the material is thin. I remember I also bought the right bottom corner one - same cover, same Decca, same Kyung Wha Chung (but this LP I inherited from my Boss is a genuine one).  |

| [#2680] Ida Haendel in Swan Lake ck2005 hing, Any difference between the two versions, you asked. Sorry, no idea whatsoever. In fact, I have not played any LPs in my home for almost two decades. It's a taste I am afraid I have lost. The sound world of LPs is a refined one I can still remember, but my time must now be spent on sundry other things (mostly alas mundane). So, I gradually turned to the other major sound-carrier for pre-recorded music; and with the flood of CDs in the market it's a road of no return for me. Lym's advice sounds very sensible (but then he always does as in various other threads). If I may venture to give you a piece of my mind, in hi-fi, don't ever, as the idiom puts it, "keep up with the Joneses". Good evening.  |

| [#2682] Ida Haendel in Swan Lake The two versions are the same. EMI sold their records in the US in the label of "Angel" during the LP era. LP collectors treasure the original EMI label more than the Angel label in general though . And those with "golden ears" basically regard EMI LPs pressed in the UK has better sonic performance than EMI-Angel LPs pressed in the US. |

From what I have experienced in teenage, LP is just too gracious and troublesome for me, I prefer the simple and easy way to enjoy music, and CD is the one I can afford for the time being. But I won't exclude the possibility of reuniting with LP when my son grows up. At present, I can only treat these LPs as collection. Dr. John, thanks for your kind offer. BTW, just wonder if we can have yumcha at Lung Wah again? |

Hilary Hahn is one of my favourite violinist in recent years that I own almost all of her album.
