[#2756] Beethoven Violin Sonata Thanks kcm. The LP boss also mentions capitol. I think that might be the EMI you posted.

[#2761] Beethoven Violin Sonata Szeryng's 6 Sonatas & Partitas for Solo Violin were recorded in 1967 (DG). My version is the "Universal Classics Vintage Collection" UCCG-9520/1: ADD 2004. HK$240 well spent.

[#2762] Beethoven Violin Sonata Luckily, I've got both Bach Violin Versions you mentioned. I have been listening to Szeryng for some years and encounters Milstein (DGG) recently. Comparing to Milstein, Szeryng, to me, is direct and clean without much artificial element, especially in relative fast movements. His acoustic is a bit bright in my system. I have to say that it is hard to me to listen to it for the whole CD (3 sonatas or partitas). Maybe, my hifi system is not good enough to display his true sounding. For Milstein, people always quote his EMI mono play of Bach as a standard but I prefer his DGG, a stereo version. To me, his play is soft and light comparing to Szeryng. Even in fast movement, Milstein tends to modify it with his unique elegant style making those movement so smooth and song-like style. ( I do find this difference in his Beethoven Concerto and Heifetz's. ) In short, Szeryng plays in Etudes styles but Milstein really plays it as sonatas with content. For interpretation aspect, I am afraid I have not knowlegde to make a judgement. While as a Bach admirer, I prefer Milstein's.

I have his set too but not hear it so often, some people declare Grumiaux is the best... Any comment? |

[#2770] Beethoven Violin Sonata The Well-Tempered Clavier, held to be the old testament of piano music, sometimes simply referred to as "48" (as opposed to "32" of Beethoven's, the new testament).

[#2771] Beethoven Violin Sonata So happy that u mention Grumiaux. I really want to recommand his Bach Violin Concertos (Philip)which is an essence if you like this piece of music. Surpisingly, Edo has directed the Violin and Obe Concerto with him in that CD. Sorry that I have no chance to listen to his Bach Sonatas and Partitas. I got his Violin Encore pieces but his plays are not attractive to me. Inerpretation, technique or style? I just dont know why... I remember u recommanded 'Stark Play Bach' to me in Hifi Show. I think Grumiaux does not have that many credit as Milstein has in solo play. Thus, u place Grumiaux's Bach partitas down at the bottom.

[#2775] Beethoven Violin Sonata I have Andras Schiff's Bach Six Partitas (piano) which is a very convincing performance. I believe his WTC I&II would produce a similar result.
