[#2919] 費城樂團會於5月31日及6月1日來港演奏 Happy Chinese New Year! Philaedelphia Orch o個場音樂會, 其實o吾聽 Lang Lang, 都仲可以聽o下 Bartok 首 Concerto for Orchestra. 第二場o既 Mahler 1 都o吾好錯過. BTW, I went to Mongkok yesterday, and noticed that RCA released some more SACDs. This time included Reiner conducting Scheherazade and Piatigorsky/Munch playing Dvorak Cello Concerto. There're still some more.

[#2921] Bach cello suites Just listen to Yo-yo Ma plays Bach Cello Suite No.1 (recorded in 1983). He is a bit hurry in those fast movements (Allemande and more in Courante). Similar to his other recordings, you can occassionally hear his breathing; together with his danceable tempo in the fast movements create an image of what he looks like (facial expression and gesture) while he plays the piece.

[#2922] Bach cello suites About breathing sound in recordings, that reminds me of Glen Gould and Keith Jerrett. Keith Jerrett is a pianist who plays jazz most of the time, but also makes some classical recordings (all under ECM label). I think Keith's he-he-hi-hi becomes a noticeable mark of his recordings....

[#2925] Bach cello suites I don't think Yo-Yo is hurry but like to have a lot of messages wanted to be pouring out. Rostropovich version is definitely the fastest, to the extent you can sense he is very familar with the pieces and nice sound as well. Maisky is very cold, no heart feel.. Casal (Naxos), the noise is so obivious. Noise to music is about 1:1. ...very bad, although he is guru. Next target is Starker (Mercury)

[#2927] Bach cello suites dear all, Haydn's piano sonatas could be unpopular but I would like to know some of them. Could anyone here introduce some of Haydn sonatas and their good interpretation of them? Many thanks!

[#2928] Any classical fans here? Hi everybody, i am new to this forum and want to 'build' my pure hi fi set for listening to music. i love classical very much especially musicians of the earlier generations: Klemperer, Walter, Fricsay, Schuricht / Oistrakh, Milstein / etc; of course, italian operas and certain german operas too !

[#2929] Bach cello suites Hi diytfy, seems that u like modern staging of 'classic' operas, but some of the people now are making it 'too modern' (for me, perhaps i am conservative in this issue) or taking minimalist to the extreme and turn everything into nothing. for a start mr 'classicalkan' gave a good range and i think u could listen to singers of the 1950s-70s for more serious/ traditional styles. enjoy !

[#2931] Haydn's piano sonatas Eminent interpreters of Haydn's piano sonatas include Alfred Brendel (Philips), Emanuel Ax (Sony), John McCabe (Decca), Sviatoslav Richter (Decca), and Leif Ove Andsnes (EMI). Ronald Brautigam's BIS accounts have received enthusiastic critical acclaim, but I have not invested in any of them, mainly because they are played on fortepiano and I am worried about that. My longtime favorites are Brendel and Richter. Apart from the Philips set, Brendel plays the E flat major sonata with real magic in a BBC DVD. It's high time Philips transferred Brendel's 4-CD set to mid-price. I have Richter on Live Classics, Stradivarius, Decca, BBC, Praga, Philips, Yedang, DG, Vanguard, Melodiya, and RCA. In terms of both sound and performance, by all means start with the two Decca issues (r. 1986-87) in which Richter plays altogether nine sonatas. My recent favorite is Ax, who is always refined and delightful. Without playing in an assuming way, Ax makes Haydn's humble little themes blossom in his hands. I hope he would go on to complete the cycle. If you totally new to Haydn's solo piano music, I would recommend Jeno Jando's bargain issues on Naxos; or, on mid-price, Andras Schiff on Warner Elatus.

[#2932] Haydn's piano sonatas thank you trollope. I will go for Andras Schiff because I have experienced his interpretation of Bach English suites and Schubert's Piano Sonata which I like very much. Since u mention jeno jando of Naxos, I'd like to raise my opinion. I dont prefer those musicians who just try to record as many as possible by completing music works of composers. I doubt if they have enough time or input significant effort to seriously study the music works before recording. I think JJ has recorded full set beethoven, chapin, bach piano works and maybe more...... Thus, subjectively, I dont prefer musician like Ashkenazy, Collin Davis or What do u think Trollope?
