| [#2896] Bruckner recording CKM Agreed that Karajan's the eighth symphony of Bruckner is a fine and representative recording which often remembered by us how he loved and revered this symphony above all. The collective unconsciousness and minds of 110 VPO members give this performance a special charisma and appealm every note and bit as authoritative and well-played as if it should be played like this - a kind of inevitability! Karajan again displays his utmost of "karajan sound" with more profound, eloquence and more humane affection, the finale is astonishingly uplifting and moving. The sonic quality reveals how excellent DGG ever recorded for this massive work and the greatness of Bruckner! For me, I always revisit Celibidache's account of eighth symphony which again fulfill his philosophy of "the richer the sound, the slower the tempo" but he indeed uses Haas edition, but the tempo and intensity of music are much slower and rich than other conductors' reading which adopts Haas edition, 104 minutes! you never feel how slow the pace and how immense the grandeur have been played by a second-class orchestra! an orchestral magician celibidache is! | [#2907] Bruckner recording Oh, as a Bruckner fanatic, I want that camera! I've the excellent Camerata Linz set, which is HIGHLY rated by many Bruckner fans. Cheaper now than before. I still see it in Shun Cheong, though it's probably will go out of print soon (again). Grab it while you can. Actually I was in Linz in 1985 during the annual Bruckner festival. Listened to the symphony #7 played by the very same orchestra (excellent) and conducted ably by Martin Sieghart. Most interestingly, they use a theme from Bruckner's Symphony #5 as curtain call (Bruckner calling you rather than some anonymous voice rushing you)! How classy!  |
