[#2938] Brahms Double Concerto 102 For Mahler : My humble recommendation but you may try. No 1 by Kubelik on DG Original No 2 I can think of no other choice but Rattle with Birmingham symphony orchestra on EMI great recordingf and perfomance, for for wallet then try Klemperer with Bavarian symphony orchestra No 3 Definitely Horostein with London symphony orchestra but that have been deleted and I brought it from england. for alternative try Leonard Bernstein (Sony version or DG version No 4 Geoge Szell with cleveland on Sony excellent recording No.5 Baritolli on EMI great recordings of twenth century No 6 A bit controversial choice here. Majorities recommendation Karajan on DG or Szell on Sony. My choice a slow but powerful one Baritolli on EMI No 7 I am not very familiar No 8 Tennstedt ( warm and humanitian ) or Solti ( exciting and good vocal singing ) No 9 Haitink on philips warm all rounded perfomance on a Duo with another excellent song of the earth.

[#2940] Jeno Jando's Haydn The Hungarian pianist Jeno Jando was described some years ago by Daily Telegraph as "the busiest man on the keyboard" -- surely not exactly a beneficent remark. Apart from the complete Haydn, he has released on Naxos Bach's WTC, complete sonatas of Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Bartok, plus a lot of Liszt, Schumann, Brahms, and Rachmaninov. With the proliferation of his new and yet another new recording, one can seldom be sure where and when he is, if ever, at his best. While none of his recordings is required listening, most of them are at least serviceable. I have just listened to Vol. 1 of his Haydn cycle, featuring Nos. 59-62 (8.550657). His approach is clean-cut and direct, but not without some charm. The E flat major is particularly winning, indeed quite stylishly executed. The recorded sound is slightly on the bright side but not worryingly so. Priced at about $40, this is the only Jeno Jando CD that I own, and I have never found myself tempted to buy any of his Beethoven or Schubert. I would think Mozart is in particular a dangerous ground for Mr Jando's artistic temperament. The only pianist I can think of who is able of rendering Mozart straightforwardly and at the same time with great panache is Christoph Eschenbach (DG).

[#2941] Jeno Jando's Haydn Listen to a few Brahms Violin concerto (on first movement) recently. 1. Stern / Ormandy 2. Mutter / Masur 3. Mintz / Abbado 4. Milstein / Jochum 5. Kremer / Bernstein My preference is Stern. Second is Mutter. Is there any recording fron Kyung-Wha Chung on Brahms violin concerto?

[#2942] Brahms's Violin Concerto My favorite remains David Oistrakh / Orchestre National de la Radiodiffusion Francaise / Otto Klemperer (r. 1960), produced by the great Walter Legge for EMI.

[#2944] Brahms's Violin Concerto Thanks trollope. When I start listen to classical music, mainly around Karajan, Ashkenazy, Yo-yo Ma, Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Rostropovich. As a result, my collection is mainly on DGG, Decca, Philips, Sony. Not until recently, I learn there is a lot of treasure from other brands like EMI. Eg Rabin playing paganini. Cosi Fan Tutti - Karl Bohm, Il Barbiere di Siviglia - Vittorio Gui.

[#2946] Brahms's Violin Concerto hi erictang and other friends, I have not listened to that many interpretations as you guys. I would like to mention Heifetz/Renier but not because he is the so-called greatest violinist. I am sure many friends here have listened to it. Maybe this is not the most 'correct' interpretation, but in term of techinque and harmony of interaction, their performance is worthy to listen to. Particularly, the performance of the third movement is so light, easy and natural. I do accept it because personally, I consider the third movement does not consist a profound content (meaning). Just a few idea!

[#2947] Brahms's Violin Concerto Hi All, If budget is not a concern, may I also recommend Henryk Szeryng / London Symphony Orchestra / Pierre Monteux? This is a 1958 recording at the famous Kingsway Hall, reissued last year by BMG/JVC in xrcd24 format. I would not say this is an issue not to be missed (at about $190 with only the Brahms's concerto), but if you have a soft spot for Szeryng, this really is a must-have. PS. Hi Erictang (and/or All), you're welcome. EMI can more than hold its own among major labels. What I find most annoying about it, however, is that it is notoriously quick in deletions. Compared with DG, Decca etc, EMI is ruthless in bringing out the deletions axe, so that very often EMI CDs that I find strongly recommended are not to be had anymore. Sometimes I had to wait for years for reissues. A notable case is the Sibelius cycle with Berglund conducting the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra; and I am still eagerly waiting for the reappearance of the complete set of Berglund with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

[#2949] Brahms's Violin Concerto May I add my 2 best loves for Brahm's concerto: 1) Heifetz-Toscannini 2) Neveu- Schimdt-Isserstedt 3) Oistrakh -et al I must concur with trollope on the rapid deletions of majoy companies, in fact, if you look closely at all the major labels, DGG, Decca,Phillips,Sony etc, they bring down the deletion axe as quickly but reissue at an even slower rate. This is so depressing..... have a nice day!

[#2951] Brahms's Violin Concerto hi The Heifetz-Toscanini can be had from Doremi records ( www.doremi.com). They are imported by Shuncheong records in Hong Kong. This is a remarkable series of live heifetz records, beautiful violin tone compared to the close RCA sound, but the actual quality of recording is pretty poor by current standards-- ie mono recording with clicks, crackles and pops. The artistry is however immeasurable!!
