| [#2931] What are you listening to? (classical music Kh33, Thank you for your hospitality, you system was really great and live like, I was especially impressed by your subwoofer, it really enhanced the enjoyment of music with such a low but powerful bass. It is really a pity that you don't listen to CD or SACD, although the sound quality may fall short, but the convience of the new software can outweight its drawback. |

| [#2935] What are you listening to? (classical music CKM, It is a great afternoon with great music and great company. A great selection of music with a lot of diversity plus KH33's wonderful system. We were able to capture the music at its best. Time did fly by and am sure we all wish to have more time. To all the fans, do let me know if anyone of you happens to visit Beijing. The sound of my system may not be as good but the passion for music is the same. |

| [#2941] What are you listening to? (classical music Pumbaa Reiner's "Vienna" was and is still my ongoing favourite album in my household playlist, since its first reissue by RCA/BMG in the name of "Living Stereo" tag in 1995, I bought at least 3 versions subsequently the Gold CD (1997), SACD (2003) and XRCD24 (2006). Although Fritz Reiner was a hungarian-born conductor, I really suspect this "iron-man" learnt a lot from viennese charm and Austro-Hungarian empire culture in 19th century, the tempo is generally brisk and crispy, devoid of sluggish pace or clumsy treatment, when you hear tracks of the blue danube, the Emperor Waltz, Viennese Blood, an Invitation To Dance (the cello solo of Janos Starker in the beginning was beautifully and lyrically played) and Rosenklavier Suite (rearranged by Fritz Reiner himself!), you must feel fascinating how much viennese charm Reiner has conveyed to a native american orchestra with fury, precision and waltz-charm , Reiner deserves being called as one of the few greatest conductors among conductor profession! Carlos Kleiber is however beguilingly akin to Fritz Reiner if you seriously compare Reiner's rendition with Kleiber's charming accounts in New Years Concerts' during (1988) & (1992), viennese charm could be heard in every piece and every note! Both Reiner and Kleiber preferred to adopt a neurotic treatment with lots of rubato and continuously varied tempo, no wonder your kid could dance side-by-side ! For the sound quality, I humbly opine that SACD does sound better in terms of dynamic, more liquid treble, better bass extension and richer sonority with more details and noise accompany , however XRCD sounds a bit over-produced and grainy by virtue of its undue emphasis on mid-treble spectrum, yet the senses of soundstage and presence are the strongest among three versions! | [#2944] What are you listening to? (classical music The following recording marks a coda and even a relationship breakdown between Rubinstein and Fritz Reiner! We Classical lover should have known that the paganini variations of Rachmaninov is still a physical and technically-demanding piece which very few pianists like to challenge unless and until they are well-equiped with supreme fingerwork and profound understanding of this virtuoso piece. This breakdown was out of a remark of Fritz Reiner, a hungarian-born conductor, who showed his contempt of thoughtless and mediocre music partner. The remark was said in an occasion which Rubinstein repeatedly had multiple retakes at the time of recroding session: Reiner said " How long would you like all gentlemen here to stand with your mistake and to wait for your last take?" Reiner said in a manner of contempt in front of all CSO members. You can wonder how furious Rubinstein was in the last take recording, the resultant playing was full of fury, sentiment and fire, worser still, Rubinstein swore subsequently that he will longer collaborate with Friz Reiner for recording other works, no matter how sincere John Prefier, the producer of living stereo series, was to seek both maestros having further cooperation in other repertoire but fruitless! a side-road gossip but true! But it's true that both were parted! George ![]() |

(classical music George 1977, Have not heard of Reiner's waltz, but for Kleiber's New years concert, I always consider it as a essential for all classical music fans. Watching Kleiber dance like conducting style is a great entertainment already, no wonder Vienna philharmonic play with their heart and soul for Kleiber. | [#2948] What are you listening to? (classical music Sorry members Typo: Stand "with" should be stand "for" CKM Thank for your link sharing, Carlos Kleiber is my all-time strauss conductor choice, excerpt the late Herbert von Karajan ! Very few conductors can earn the unanimous respect and obedience from the arrogant VPO members, Leonard Bernstein and Karl Bohm are another exception of exception and some prestigious conductors were "insulted" or "bullied" by VPO in different occasions such as Mazzel, Muti, Ozawa and Levine....
