| [#3117] Chopin piano concerto No. 2 After listening to the third movement of Chopin's piano concerto No.2 played by Zimerman in Limage's castle, I take out this disc out last night and hope that I could fine tune my system. But after a few minutes, I decided to sit back and enjoy these wonderful music instead. This piece by Chopin was indeed one of the most beautiful movement in classical music, the second movement was a `love letter' written by Chopin to a girl he admired. Zimerman was magical, he play every note with care and passion. I especially impressed by his wonderful treatment of the orchestral section. In the past, this concerto was the nightmare of every orchestra, however Zimermen make these uninteresting orchestra section sound like a Wagner overture. Although some may argue that Zimerman was too sentimental (like Penguin guide) , I was total convinced. | [#3120] Merry Christmas & Happy New Year After hearing the news that another political figure has been assinated, picked out the War Requiem by Benjamin Britten. A requiem based on the poem by Wilfred Owen. The recording was made in 1963 with the composer conducting the LSO,Culshaw the producer, and took place in the Kingsway Hall. It is my first listening to this piece, a remarkable and monumental recording. Though it is lengthy and difficult to digest, it is appropriate for the situation. |

Fifteen years ago when I first heard the second movement of this lovely piece that played by Istvan Szekely, Budapest Symphony Orchestra conducted by Gyula Nemeth (in The Best of NAXOS 6 CD), I was shocked to realise that one can fully relax himself/herself during the playback of this movement. All the worries and anxiety will temporarily be forgotten. |
