| [#326] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Mr Ng, My old spk system is built around the Lowther mid driver, which is basically a dipole design with an aim to strengthen the bass response. My Gakuoh can drive these spks with ease. The Alpha 1 is a horn spk using TAD units, it doesn't sound much like older horn designs. To my surprise, its smooth, smooth enough to make violins and female vocals sound right,and yet it has the blast for trumpets, kick drum attacks, and snare drum tenderness. The WE44A matches it so well that I almost forget the vinyl and the Petrus. Besides, it is easier to drive than the Horning. |

| [#328] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Mr Wu, the cathode capacitance for the 102D/G is very tricky, I still have yet to decide what is the best required capacitance quantity, 25-50uf is not enough, the sound is harsh, 80-100uf seems o.k. but the sound is rough, less silky.I have tried the 109B RET, though it's not perfectly matched with the 102, I can confirm that a RET is necessary to treat the 102 alone, it will increase the overall controlling power,firmer bass response and a timely pace presentation, probably RET197A is the perfect match. I'll talk to you later on Friday. |
