| [#3450] Berlioz Last night, listened to Berlioz's `Harnold in italy', this piece was inspired Byron's poem `Child Harnold' while Berlioz was in Italy, but the music have no association with Byron's Poem. In fact this music was commissioned by Paganini, Paganini asked Berlioz to write a concerto for Viola, but Berlioz replied with a four movement fantasy with viola with symphonic conception, although Paganini still pay for it, he did not performed if in his life time as he found it not virtuostic enough. | [#3456] Dvorak Listened to Michelangeli playing Beethoven Piano concerto no.3 in partner with Giulini directing the Vienna Sym.,a live recording made in 1979. the two Italian speak the same language, they gave a slow, measured account of this concerto. There is no question about Michelangeli's technique,with crystal clear articulation and unique phrasing,he tries to caress each note giving them the widest tone colour possible which sometimes is really enticing. But as a whole he lacks the energy and momentum the I like,having get used to the Richter's version. |

Though Paganini never played the work, he first heard this 4 years after its premiere, so struck by it that he went up the stage, knelt at Berlioz's feet and kissed his hand. Few days later, he sent Berlioz a congratulatory note and 20,000 francs, good enough to enable Berlioz to complete his most famous "Romeo et Juliette".  |

( classical mus Beethoven cello sonata last night, this time on period instrument by Anner Bylsma and Jos van Immerseel, the intrepration were totally different from Rostropvich/Richter, the fortpiano sound thin and light, Cello take up a more active role instead, although vibrato were minimal, Bylsma still played with passion and excitment, a different experience from Russian masters.  |
