[#3550] Britten - Noye's Fluddle 望著內裡這結構, 再比對錄音, 似乎明白了為可樂團的樂器排列為何好像分開左右後方兩邊旁. 方舟應放中間, 前面的坐位應為前台.

[#3552] Britten - Noye's Fluddle Very nice picture of the church. In fact, while I was in secondary school, in one of the summer, I took part in joint school orchestra to accompany playing of Noye's Fludde in St. John's Cathedral. Its a pity that I can't remember any of the usic but Burger King somewhere around the current Standard Chartered Bank. --> 若你篤信聖經的話, 那麼這應該是當然的. So are we "兄弟" or "主內的弟兄" ? :)

[#3556] Domingo in Hong Kong I went to the Carreras concert in Macau. It is obvious that I am NOT a opera fan, but since Carreras is one of three tenors, I figure I should at least see him once in LIVE before this living legend reach his end of days. I am disappointed since he is singing through a mic. The voice is still good, but with amplification and speakers. I always thought a true operatic voice should be heard form 2 football fields away from the spot of singing. (BTW, I will rate HKPO operatic performance much better than the one I saw in Macau...at least they are no using mics) Maybe my expectations were too high since he is one of legendary “3 tenors” or just drink a bit too much before the show. I was dosing on and off for most of the show. It wasn’t that exciting. At least no powerful cadenza awaken me form my dreams. Fortunately, I got those expensive tickets free form the casino but I don’t think I will go again if I have to pay for it. Domingo concert is tempting but tickets price is very steep. One should expect him to sing through a mic also. But Domingo side kick is a babe, it might be worth it just to see the British blond. Katherine Jenkins is sizzling hot for an operatic singer. She kinda look like one of the Pussycat dolls....with less curve of coz. The ticket price is expensive since ticket price included all the room and board for Domingo, Jenkins and his orchestral and chew. My reason for going will be the same for Carreras. Domingo is 66 years old. It is now or never.

[#3557] Domingo in Hong Kong Still working on 5000 words dissertation, today is the deadline! Last night some romantic music for the Valentine's day, Chopin's piano concerto again, this time by Rubinstein. As mentioned before, Chopin write this two concerto in his 20s to express his secret love, what a big contrast with today's teenagers attitude on `love'. I was really shocked by 13 years old girl come to me request abortion while I was still working in hospital. Chopin's music belonged to a bygone era. Rubinstein's playing was fluent, he may sound cool when compare with Zimerman, but he demonstrated that Chopin's piano concerto can be elegant and noble rather than senitmental. Piano concerto NO.1 was recorded by Kenneth Wilkinson, while concerto No 2 was by Lewis Layton, Wilkinson stress on `hall effect' while Layton recording stress on timbre of individual instrument, tape hiss are obvious but both recording set standard in their days, but may not be as good as today's standard. 熱愛多年在曲藏 http://www.musicdata.org/md_new/pages/posts/2.-BCF6B7rA6hA67EA6bA6B1C2C392.php ![]()

[#3565] Don Quixote Recently picked up this for a good price. This is a mono recording, but in reasonable sound. Piatigorsky is good but overall compared to Tortelier/Kempe etc the performance lacks something, perhaps Straussian opulence. The stereo filler Till Eulenspiegel was nicely turned though. ![]()

[#3566] Solomon I was surprised to find a classical page at the back of a recent issue of mainland's excellent (三聯) 生活 weekly. Anyone knows this author? Since I have the cheap and ancient Seraphim LPs, I believe some of the info are incorrect. Solomon I think recorded all of the piano concerti. #2 with Cluytens is on the same Testament CD as #1. ![]()

[#3568] Munch's Beethoven Munch spanned the mono and living stereo eras, anmd much of his output is out of general circulation. Here is sort of a rarity. Munch had been criticized for his "untidiness" and "roughness", but I always find him engaging, at least never boring. He's not known for his Beethoven, but judging from what I heard here, I wonder why. The Fidelio overture is dramatic, the Eroica well proportioned and the first pristine. ![]()
