[#3597] Lener Quartet A Taiwan site, mostly in Chinese. Doesn't seem to be as active (in participation) and as fanatical (in moods) as ours. But there are quite a number of interesting topics which are not covered among friends in R33. Worth visiting from time to time. Many thanks, DL

[#3603] 10-CD Oistrakh set from Brilliant Classics I get the LP Rostropovich / Sekin / BRAHMS' Pn & Cello sonatas (1983 DG ) recently, pending to play. For Brahms, I like the one by Yo-yo Ma of RCA. And a few movements by Du Pre. The Maisky I bought a few days ago is playing very fast.

[#3606] 10-CD Oistrakh set from Brilliant Classics trollope, Just scanned the tracklisting, I think I already have got 5 or 6 of the 10 CDs.....difficult to decide if I should still buy it..... Nevertheless, price of Brilliant Classics box-set is very cheap, so I may still go for it. :) dx7770, I don't have that Starker playing Hadyn Cello Concertos, but HK $170 for single CD from Delos is very expensive. I think you can phone other shops to check on the price before buying it.

[#3607] 10-CD Oistrakh set from Brilliant Classics For Brahm's cello sonata my 1st choice is P.Fournier or A. Navarra. For Haydn's cello concerto my favourite is Du Pre,esp.her Haydn C,she played with real passion. Another choices are that by Milos Sadlo and Daniel Shafran.

[#3610] Starker's Haydn I saw it sold at Win Win Shop too. That was about a couple of weeks ago. I have not been tempted because I want my Haydn warm and tender, and my experience with "Starker Plays Kodaly" (Delos DE1015) informs me that the sound from this cellist is rather glacial and chilly. I may be wrong with this Haydn disc though.

[#3611] Starker's Haydn kh33: I agree with you that Fournier's version is among the best and I am happy to live with it though it was in Mono.

[#3612] Fournier's Haydn While we are talking about Pierre Fournier, may I call your attention to Haydn's Cello Concertos Nos. 1 & 2, played by this cellist in a wonderfully humane reading, with the Lucerne Festival Strings conducted by Rudolf Baumgartner. This is found in DG's "Panorama" Joseph Haydn 2-CD set. It does not appear in DG's site anymore. I hope it has not been deleted.

[#3613] Fournier's Haydn Hello kh33, For Brahm's cello sonata may I know who is the painist accompanying P.Fournier or A. Navarra. Thanks.

[#3614] Fournier's Haydn Infact, I should use the word 'collaboration' instead of 'accompanying'. Quoted from the 'Rostropovich/Serkin' record notes, "Brahms gave his cello sonatas the title of "sonatas for piano and violoncello' - a clear indication that he regarded the piano as the equal of the other instrument, not as an accompanist. This equality demands players who are each other's peers, and ready to place the highest standards of technique and musicianship at the service of a mutual cause. Mstislav Rostropovich, too, emphasized this aspect when talking of his collaboration with Rudolf Serkin."

[#3615] Fournier's Haydn Hello kh33, One more question, what is the brand of the Brahms 'sonatas for piano for violoncello' CD (or record).

[#3616] Fournier's Haydn Hi Trazom, About Brahms No.1, after listening to Rostropovich/Sekin, I listen to Ma/Ax (RCA) again. I perfer the Ma's one. Eg, phrasing in 1st and 2nd movements, how the notes in (beginning of) third movement are played (a bit jumping - staccato) and the tight breathtaking ending.
