Yes, this set was probably Ashkenazy's best effort in conducting, his version is passionate in Russian spirit.

I have three different versions of Hungarian dance by Brahms, in orchestra, violin and four hands piano, incidentally all CD are from Naxos. I found Hungarian dance sound best in its violin version, the gypsy spirit in the music was expressed most vividly. The recording by Naxos was lively, violin playing was very exciting, one of the jewels among Naxos' release. Do not miss that CD.

Kliegel do not enjoyed the fame and popularity of those star Cellist, but she is by no mean inferior. She have recorded an excellent Schumann Cello concerto which I recommanded wholeheartedly.

The Shostakovich's Cello concerto CD was interesting, would you please tell us your impression? The one I have was by Rostropvich in 1960 on Sony.

She uses a strad cello "ex-Gendron" which is previously own by Maurice Gendron.

那交響曲是史氏受教如林姆斯基高沙可夫年青時期之作. 同我們所熟識的史特拉汶斯基風格很不同, 明顯較為傳統蘇俄交響曲風, 有些 Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Glazunov....

Thereafter, I listening to Hummel's septet, a delightful work in the style of Beethoven's septet, but as Hummel was a very good pianist, piano was added as part of the ensemble, funny music for late night listen.
