| [#3739] Cello Music This afternoon, listen to Dvoark Cello Concerto (London Symphony Orchestra/Dortal/Starker). My copy is a Philips LP and I guess it is the same recording as the CD in this Chinese website which also provides information on different editions of Dvoark Cello Concerto. http://lib.verycd.com/2004/05/28/0000013485.html Personally, I like this recording. It will be even better if the cello can play the opening of the third movement boarder. More about cello music, I got the following at a total of $138. Bach Cello Suites - Heinrich Schiff (EM1 7243 5 86534 2 7 ) & Saint-Saens Cello Concerto - Maisky (DG 457 599-2). |

| [#3740] Annie Fischer and Richter Dear All Oops, I've been framed. Been very busy lately and hence have not been reading this thread for some days. I am certainly not the expert on Annie Fischer but I really do buy her CDs whenever I came out. Well, i don't have the french EMI box set yet, cos I missed it once ( bought too many CDs at that time, and I thought I would come back the week after only to find out.... well, you know......) I would agree with Trollopes recommendation but only to point out perhaps one more CD: there are 2 Cds of Annie Fischer on the Palexa label ( canadian ) , one featuring a 1984 Montreal live recital concert featuring Mozart,Schumann and Schubert and a concerto album with Klemperer and Fricsay ( 1950s I think), The 1984 Montreal recording is pretty well recorded and is a memorable concert. If you are in HK, its really cheap if you fin dit in Shun Cheong Records (it was selling at around 70 dollars last time I checked.) Been listening to the TNC collection of Richter in Prague over the last 2 weeks and , Thanks to Trollope, its a pretty good collection. Reminds me of the Praga series in the early 1990s, where I eagerly await each CD as it came out. Nostalgia....... |

Yes, it's very good, exactly Fischer's cup of tea -- the great Austro-German tradition. The other Palexa CD you mentioned should still be available at Shun Cheong. PS. | [#3745] Talking over your head Trollope and All Off course I don't mind! Please excuse all my typos as I was really in a hurry last night. Things seem to be much settled today. The Annie Fischer CD you mentioned is exactly the one I would personally recommend to someone new to Annie Fischer who wants to try out her style with a single CD. The Music is great (in fact, with the first note of the Mozart sonata, you will realise its a great concert), The Recording is pretty good ( 1984 ), it doesn't cost a bomb and should be quite easily available. Still, Annie Fischer isn't my best love, my affection goes to THE three "giants" of the keyboard : Lipatti Solomon Haskil |

It's rather expensive and so I have feared that my meat would become your costly poison. Tanuski, please check your earthlink. Although I am probably the first owner from HK of the TNC 17-CD set (July 2003), I have yet to find the time to listen to anyone of them. Of the three Ankh CDs I received a few weeks ago, I have only been able to listen to the first one (Richter playing an all-Chopin recital on 19 June 1950). Time, or more specifically time to spare, plays a far greater role than hi/mid/lo fi equipment or CD/SACD/xrcd etc in determining whether music can give you pleasure.
