[#3837] Otto Klemperer on EMI Hey erictang, Thanks for your info. Actually i got the Bohm DG set with Prey and Schreier. Have you come across Bohm's Cosi on Double Decca too ? * * * * * * * * * Hello trollope, Of the Klemperer CDs you've listed here, we share 99.8% of the titles except Bruckner. I've never heard any Bruckner - thinking that his works are long and i am afraid that some of them might be 'tough' for to endure. Well, who knows? - i am listening to Mahler now ! Do you have extra Klemperer albums? Hope i will be able to manage a good CD catalogue of my own later ! p.s. for German Requiem, have you come across this? - i am also very fond of Bruno Walter for certain works. ![]()

[#3847] Kleiber's 5th, Giulini I agree with those who find it hectic. Giulini's CD of Beethoven 5th and Schumann's Rhenish Trollope mentioned are definitely some of his greatest recordings (and I am a Schumann fan). For some reason his LAPO recordings are good. They rank as high as his CSO Mahler #9.

[#3848] Kleiber's 5th, Giulini If you are interested in Beethoven Piano Concerto. Claudio Arrau's Emperior (#5) is a classic that cannot be missed. Buy the version with Sir Colin Davis as the conductor.

[#3850] Beethoven/ Backhaus Thank you, erictang and doctorjohn. I have decided to try more versions of Beethoven's piano concertos (PC). I have bought the EMI Forte set with Gilels and Szell. Sadly the budget Decca set of symphonies and concertos is also deleted. ***But i found recent Japanese Decca reissues of the PCs (Brahms PC no. 1 too) at HMVjp website ! Fantastic! Cheers!

[#3852] Beginner's Bruckner Hi Wal, I am afraid those EMI CDs are all the Klemperer that I have. "I've never heard any Bruckner ..." Well, as Walter is one of your favourite conductors, start your Bruckner with the final movement of his ninth symphony with the maestro conducting the Columbia Symphony Orchestra. Bruckner's fourth symphony is also a good entry point. It is his "lightest" symphony. In any case, it may be advisable to start your Bruckner with his expansive slow movements. His big adagios are among the propensities his pupil Mahler picked up. I tend to think that Bruckner is more Wagnerian than Mahlerian -- very long and very noisy indeed for more than an hour, and then some heavenly lyrical moments overwhelm you for fifteen minutes or so. The final movement of his ninth lasts longer than that (Giulini: 29'30; Walter: 23'17).

[#3855] Beginner's Bruckner Sunny hing, No need to buy second-hand. There are many re-issued versions on Budget price with good re-mixed soundage.

[#3856] Beginner's Bruckner yes, exactly. This is a re-issue budget release for Philips. Recording is not the greatest, but Arrau gets across the grandness of the Emperor.
