[#3810] What are you listening to? After so many years, at least there is a Grieg that is comparable to the Lupu/Previn performance. Great recording.

[#3811] What are you listening to? Just purchased this Chopin Valses, good value and good sound. The Steinway piano sounds good in its competitor Bosendorfer's speaker. ![]()

[#3812] What are you listening to? I got this one too, very good indeed. Steinway piano sang by Bosendorfer speakers - interesting! Pity you can't do it other way round!

[#3813] What are you listening to? Looking forward to see what would happen when Bosendorfer piano playing in Bosendorfer speaker. I only got 3 CDs from Harmonia Mundi but they sound more impressive than the DGs or Deccas EU version. Seems like alternative labels give much surprise. Next time will consider Alpha or BIS label!

[#3814] What are you listening to? Another excellent Harmonia Mundi release that I'm sharing. When I was young I was quite inert to a few major composers, like Bruckner, Sibelius and Shostakovich, and particularly Brahms. Until 2 years ago when I studied 2 of his lieds, did I start to click into Brahms's channel. Now I'm a big fan of his music (but still quite inert to Bruckner and Shostakovich). Brahms's lieder ought to be appreciated more! Bernarda Fink's Brahms is sweet and intimate. The freshness of her interpretation makes it hard for me to believe that she's already more than 50. ![]()

[#3815] What are you listening to? Brahms' liebeslieder is a killer! It's hard to imagine anybody not surrendering to this joyous and romantic music. I always want to gather a few friends and perform it! I think a quartet of 4 singers works better than a chorus in this piece. I used to listen a lot to a BBC Legends live recording with Britten/Arrau and a quartet which includes (of course) Peter Pears and Janet Baker. That recording has a great "waltz" quality often absent in many other recordings, but the singing can be a bit crude at times. After sampling in Amazon, the recording below has all the big names and may be a better choice! ![]()

[#3817] What are you listening to? Listened to Chopin's Waltz last night, Rubinstein's playing did not have the excitment of Lipatti, but he was far more graceful than Ashkenasy who like to `bang' on the piano, Rubinstein's pace were relax and elegant, fluent and nature, belonging to a bygone era. Recording were inferior to today's standard. ![]()

[#3821] Horszowski Plays Beethoven Diabelli Variation I have listened to this piano works in various versions including Richter's one for a few time but never like it with its unexpectedly huge dynamic variations. However, I realized this is my wrong perception of this piano music after I have a listen of Horszowski's one. He totally makes this piano variation very different in each note. You can easily sense the rhythm varies from note to note by delivered by his magical hands but with no unnecessarily huge dynamics. Horszowaki, a greatest pianist. He is definitely not a hammering-like pianist. The only thing he gives out is more super in-depth musics and subtle details. ![]()

[#3823] Beethoven symphony from Dresden I have go through Cluytens complete Beethoven symphony last year, apart from the fair recording from EMI, Cluytens set was exception. Recently, I acquire a new set in modern recording, it was a cycle by Blomstedt and Staatskapelle Dresden recorded in the warmth acoustic of Lukaskirche. I listened to symphony No.2 and 4 last night, what strike immediate was the warmth, gorgeous tone of Staatskapelle Dresden , this recording would not please followers of historial informed performance, as the playing rooted deeply in central european tradition of Bohm, Jochum or Wand. Blomstedt can maintained the momentum throughout and the music simple keep moving, but he was never rushed. He was however by no mean as slow as Klemperer. The only drawback was the playing lack character. Recording by Berlin classic was warm, in fine analog sound. 浪漫時期降臨了 http://www.musicdata.org/md_new/pages/posts/37.-AEF6BAA9AEC9B4C1ADB0C1A4f39.php?p=30 ![]()
