[#3958] Cello Hi Wal, Lalo cello concerto is also my favorite. I find (DG) Fournier's playing is more on a romantic approach and the tempo is a bit slow. You can also try Yo-yo Ma/Maazel/Orchestre National de France (Sony), smooth, sweet and his breathing audiable occassionally. And Harrell/Chailly/Radio-Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (Decca), forceful when compare to Ma (similar to their playings of shostakovich) Harrell's staccato in the third movement is much shorter than those by Ma.

[#3961] Cello Hi again erictang, I just listened to Lalo thos afternoon and found it very 'French' and passionate! I think i will go get some more great cello concertos. As for Haydn, i only have the one with a young artist on DG 'Masters' series. Oh i dare not go into the baroque instrumental concertos (not Bach's Brandenburg or Handel's concerti grossi - you know) because there are just TOO many and i will be bankrupt! Well, may i share the few cool tango CDs that i have...: #2 ![]()

[#3967] Cello Hey there erictang, Oh i also got the Brandenburg Concertos by Pinnock, and of course the set by Klemperer too! The concerti grossi by Vivaldi and by Handel are also very relaxing and pleasing. Will get Starker and Rostropovich CDs too but on other works, but need to do some search first. ____________ Hi kcm, Will take a good look - some budget CDs are real treasures ! Cheers.
