| [#3951] Debussy's string Quartet By the end of the 20th century, numerous string quartet have been written by Beethoven, Mozart, Dvorak, Schubert already, but Debussy break the mold set by the vienna school, his string quartet was alive with strong rthythum. The second movement is make up of short phase played by strings in turn and picking of strings, a real challenge to the string player. Quartetto Italiano's version is a classic, the recording was captured most vividly by Philips, the picking of strings on the second movement was a huge challenge to Hi fi system too.  |

| [#3953] Karajan's Adagio and Abbado chankaiming: Roberto is completely unlike Claudio. The more famous Abbado is usually squeaky clean, quite literal (and I ahve heard him in concert many times in Mahler and even Bruckner) and controlling with the structure, successfully I may add (in contrast to EdW). Roberto is much more interested in tone painting and coloristic treatment, and more prone to pulling around with things. In many ways he is much more interesting than his uncle. Yes, THAT Karajan is one of his best LPs. I have literally worn out my first copy (have a second). Superb room-filling sound. I concur with chowhk that there were MANY fine DG recordings. He remade it in digital and that doesn't sound nearly as good. |

| [#3955] Mozart's Requiem Mozart's requiem was his last work, Mozart was quite ill when he composed his requiem and it must be his `Swan song', he cannot even finished it during his lifetime and it was completed by his student. The recording by Karajan was a excellent one, many regard this 1976 version was the best among the three Karajan recorded for DG, Karajan's approach was romantic, dramatic and heavy handed, I would compare his version with another version conducted by Peter Schreier later.  |

| [#3956] Mozart's Requiem 《安魂曲》的寫作經過大家已很熟知了：一七九一年七月，瓦爾捷格伯爵(Count Walsegg)預付了一筆相當豐富的酬金請莫扎特寫一首安魂彌撒以追悼妻子的亡魂，並且要在規定的日子以前完成。莫扎特當時在為他的歌劇而忙碌，到開始寫這首《安魂曲》時，病情已經嚴重。他覺得這是自己的安魂曲，因此據說一直在精神亢奮的情況下寫作，可惜到十二月五日他逝世的一天，只完成了第一節《進台經》中的《安息經》(Introitus: requiem aeternam)和第二節《求主憐憫》(Kyrie elesion)，其餘大部分只有草稿。在莫扎特遺蘊n求下，他的學生蘇斯梅耶(Franz Sussmayer, 1766 - 1803)根據老師的草稿和自己的筆記(或麥晹陴鬗蒟S在病床上哼給他聽的合唱)而完成了全曲，得以及時交給瓦爾捷格伯爵。我們今天雖然不知道全曲中哪些是莫扎特的「真跡」，哪些是他的學生的創作，但這首偉大的作品能留傳下來，蘇斯梅耶實在居布々j，因為他把莫扎特最後也是最好的一首作品留給後世。 最後傑作《安魂曲》 孔在齊 http://www.musicdata.org/md_new/pages/posts/14.-B3CCABE1B3C7A7A1mA6wBBEEA6B1A1n246.php |

| [#3957] Beethoven Orchestral As soon as I set up my LP, I played these. ANSERMET has always been grossly under-rated. His Beethoven is clean and detailed, yet not anti-septic, like a lot of modern performances. I chose the 8th, which received a performance with momentum under Ansermet. Many of his symphony cycles deserve to be re-issued. They also all have resplendent sound. The Babirolli 3rd is again excellent, not really overly "tragic" but it moves along nicely. The playing cannot be faulted.  |

| [#3959] Beethoven Orchestral As far as I know, Dutton and Testament in UK have reissued some titles already such like Solomon playing Concerto No.3 and Barbirolli conducting BBC Symphony Orchestra to play Eroica. All are available in Shung Cheong Music. Sound are beyond average. BTW, Shung Cheong will start its removal sale since 10 April!  |

| [#3961] Barbirolli playing Brahms 早晨.. 講開LP，前兩日行過太子聯合廣場，在一小小黑膠二手店內見到一盒四張美版EMI Barbirolli指VPO的布氏四首交響樂。盒身陳舊，但膠碟本身卻經清洗乾淨光滑，叫價$350，雖然近年已甚少買lp但也唯有付鈔了事。 回家後仍未有時間聽，頗有期待。 |

| [#3963] Mozart's Requiem K.626手上已經有不少版本，不過這個貝姆 (Karl Bohm)指揮的版本卻是不曾買過。貝姆(Karl Bohm)比較著名的安魂曲錄音是指揮VPO (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra)於1971年為DG灌錄的立體聲唱片。而這張PHILIPS的則是他跟維也納交響樂團 (Wiener Symphoniker Orchestra) 與維也納國立歌劇院合唱團等，在1956年錄製的單聲道版，這錄音在當時也曾是風靡一時的銘盤。 貝姆的這個版本是個沈穩而內斂的演出，即使是震怒之日(Dies irae) 或是咒詛 (Confutatis，或是譯成受判之人、更長的"投入烈火的惡徒"等等)，這些比較激烈的部分，在彰顯出音樂的張力之餘，不會流於那種砲火全開式的激動；而像落略坐 (Larcrimosa) 這樣沈澱的樂段，也不曾過於沈溺無法自拔。貝姆指揮棒下的K.626從頭到尾，維持著一種絕妙的平衡感，醞著一股高貴又威嚴的氣勢。合唱團與獨唱者的有著很好的發揮，成弁M托了整體的氣氛，附帶一提，雖然是1956年的錄音，但是非常飽滿而且清晰，與1971年立體聲 (DG)不徨多讓。 Philips UCCP9526  |

| [#3968] Shun Cheong Been to Shun Cheong, the `bargain' they offer was to buy 4 get one free ( the cheapest one is free), on average their disc cost $125, in other words, you can have $ 100 per disc if you buy five disc together ($500 for 5 disc). However, I would not consider any disc cost more than $40 as a real bargain. |
