[#4131] Verdi's requiem Listened to Abbado's Verdi requiem recorded on DVD, despite superior sonic, artful video, full libretto, I still prefer the version by Fricsay. Fricsay have a fire in his music. he can always keep your hair stand on its end, but Abbado only me fall asleep. Wonderful singing from the vocal quartet, who is the best we have today. ![]()

[#4132] Verdi's requiem 早晨。 ckm: 「質勝文則野,文勝質則史」,孔夫子留下這個評斷,放在藝術演繹方面也很貼切。 就看你要理性多一點,還是感性多一點。

[#4133] Verdi's requiem Hello CKM, I am impressed with your preference for Fricsay's Verdi Requiem. Have you come across his other version on The Originals ? (The Stabat Mater in the same album as shown by your post is the best one; the second is Istvan Kertesz's version with Pavarotti on Decca.) Fricsay's Mozart Requiem, with Grummer, Pitzinger, Krebs, Hotter in the vocal, is ABSOLUTELY a rare gem (now only available on JP version). ![]()

[#4136] Verdi's requiem Wal, I have only two version Fricsay recorded in 1960 and Abbado on DVD, I found something still missing after three consecutive night of Verdi's requiem. I have order Solti's version on Decca through a CD shop, it take a week, I hope the dream team of Sutherland, Pavorotti, Vienna Philharmonic, Solti could bring me some surprise.

[#4137] Borodin 's String Quartet Listened to Borodin String quartet No.2 played by original members of Borodin Quartet, recorded by Decca in 1962, the recording was of the highest standard, pinpoint soundstage with full concert hall ambience. The third movement (Mocturno) was my favorite chamber pieces, the heart on sleeve playing of Borodin Quartet was really moving, I always wonder why the Russian can produce such a rich and colorful tone. ![]()

[#4139] 回覆(40):Brahms Another great string quintet besides that of Schubert C major is Brahms Quintet in F major. Brahms created this quintet during his stay in the beautiful suburb of Austria and he was proud of this work. Listened to the playing by the Budapest string quartet with Walter Trampler as second violist. Recording was made by Columbia during the early sixties with more than acceptable sound. However the playing was of the highest order. They gave a refined and intimate account of this chamber work that made listening a really joyful experience.

[#4144] Tchaikovsky Listened to symphony No.5 and No.3 last night played by Jansons and Oslo Philharmonic. Jansons playing was meticulous, the Perfomance of Oslo Philharmonic can be compare with any great orchestra in the world. The recording was in demonstrative sound by Chandos. But I still think that Tchaikovsky's music are by no mean rational. I would like these music to be played more sentimentally, I still prefer Mravinsky, or even Muti's version. ![]()

[#4146] Schumann Pollini's Schumann Fantasie was one of his best effort, his tone was crystalline, and mostly importantly, he was not that cold at that time.

[#4147] Mascagni: Cavalleria Rusticana Listened to Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana last night, played by Karajan and the ever exciting La Scala threatre orchestra. The cast was the best in its days, Carlo Bergonzi singing was sunny and have a warm voice. Fiorenza Cossotto was one of the greatest Mezzo- soprano and she was in her prime, her singing of the jealous women was most vivid. But the real star here was Karajan, although it is the first time I hear this opera, the Prelude was so beautifully shaped that I think it cannot be bettered. The famous Intermezzo was another highlight of this set, the strings of La Scala threatre orchestra have a golden sheen, and the beautiful melody flow most naturally. Recording by DG was demontrative grade even compare with today's standard. For $55 only at HMV, I don't think there are any reason to hold you back from getting it immediately. 「現實主義」歌劇緣起 http://www.musicdata.org/md_new/pages/posts/61.-A1uB2B9EAA5dB8qA1vBAqBCBDtB0_293.php?p=60 ![]()
