| [#4154] ETSC & ETRC & ESAC Members (44) 咁有無一個唔係 fiction 既 explanation of 個 observation 呢又.... ? :-p -------------------------------------------------- this is a tough one. let me try ^-^ now we are talking about pops and clicks generated during the play back of LP. looking at a typical digital output of a LP analogue output, the pops are usually very sharp spikes with possibly some ringing afterwards. and they don't seem to affect both channels at the same time very often. being spikes their duration is rather short. but i have to say the replay chain from amp to speaker does not really know it is noise and not signal. so they will be played back 'equally'. i don't understand ivan's reference of them being 'out of phase'. i'm not aware of any mechanism that will produce such an effect. if the pops are not very frequent, being spikes with very short duration and happen to a channel at a time, i would think the brain will probably be smart enough to ignore them once it gets used to it. but if they get frequent, i think the brain will get confused and lose the spatial cues of the original signal. the soundstage will be affected. my wild guess^-^ |

" According to my memory (mind you that it is poor)... the music is like coming from an image of a space that is surrounding the room with the stage mainly visualized as some distance back from the speakers and the music altogether is coherent. The noise and ticks are heard as not part of that musical stage but rather like a direct burst from the speaker which one can readily notice.... Hope I can really depict what its like... |

The noise and ticks are heard as not part of that musical stage but rather like a direct burst from the speaker which one can readily notice.... ------------------------------------------------- you can't really expect that a single pop to destroy your soundstage. being spiky in nature it's duration is very small. i don't think your brain has the ability to differentiate such a short duration of signal in the presence of a continuous music signal. the masking effect will make you believe that the signal is coming from no where and then disappear. in fact i think the original signal is gone but you wouldn't be able to tell though. if you can freeze in time, and listen to your speaker slice by slice time wise, i'm sure you will hear the pop but nothing else for that particular slice in time.^-^ |
