| [#4172] Tchaikovsky piano trio Tchaikovsky piano trio was written when the founder of the Moscow Consvertory Nikolai Rubinstein passed away, the music was full of grief. Wonderful playing by Borodin trio here, with two members of Borodin Quartet together another russian pianist, I always love the tone of the great cellist, Dubinsky who take of the bass line of Borodin Quartet for 50 years already. The whole team played like one, their sentimental playing was perfect for Tchaikovsky's music, in wondulfully trueful recording by Chando.  |

| [#4179] Saint-Saens Organ Symphony No.3 For Saint-Saens 3 Barenboim was my favourite until I heard Charle Munch with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. There is magic in this Frenchman that captures one's attention. With warm,rich and sweet string tone his second slow movement is just mesmerising. Also the sound of the recording is of the highest quality which made it one of the RCA's classics. |

| [#4181] Richard Strauss Don Quixote Last night listened to Karajan's 1966 version of don Quixote with Pierre Fournier. Although I have three versions on my shelf ( Reiner/Janigro, Kempe/Tortelier, Boult/Du Pre ) I never listened to this work attentively. The music by Richard Strauss is lyrical and narrative, the tone of Fournier was warm and elegant. Probably a comparative study on this work by four different cellist would be most interesting. The recording on DG was of demonstrative grade, with a deep and wide soundstage and warm ambience.  |

| [#4188] Chopin Listened to Chopin's piano concerto no.2 by Ashkenazy with LSO conducted by David Zinman. A DECCA recording made in the sixties shortly after Ashkenazy defected to the West. Though often neglected and under mentioned, here Ashkenazy gave an inspiring account of this 2nd concerto by Chopin. With his appropriate phrasing,delicate touch, and aristocratic style, his reading can be highly recomended. Let's see what Emmanuel Ax can do on this weekend concert. |
