[#4238] Fortepiano Hi Trazom, See if I can buy the ticket ($200) via internet after mid-night. Or my friend will go to outlet tomorrow (but not early in the morning). If my memory is correct, I went to Yo-yo Ma concert once when I was still in school.

[#4239] Fortepiano You have a point, Eric, about Malcolm Bilson. My encounter with him is limited to this CD I bought two years ago at Tower Records in Flags, Shinjuku: Mozart: Piano Concerto Nos. 20, K.466 & 21, K.467 Malcolm Bilson (fortepiano) / The English Baroque Soloists / John Eliot Gardiner [1986] DG (Archiv Produktion -- Archiv New Best 50) UCCA-3165: DDD 2002 Probably, now that I come to think about it, it is Gardiner and his English Baroque Soloists who have done most of the magic during most of the playing time. All the same, I think this is a great disc.

[#4240] Fortepiano Hi Trollope, K466 is my favorite because of minor key. My Malcolm Bilson Mozart Concerto on Fortepiano (with the English Baroque soloists on authentic instruments) is a 9CD box set at $40 per disc. Other solo pieces tonight, Bach Italian Concerto (BWV 971) on Harpsichord played by George Malcolm. You may have encountered the 3rd movement in TVB Jade afternoon (13:15?) program. Sarasate: Zigeunerweisen and Bach Chaconne (orginally from Partita no.2 for violin) played by Rodion Azarkhin on the double bass. This reminds me the contrast between elephant in Saint Saens Carnival of the Animals and bird in Vivaldi Four Seasons - Spring.

[#4241] Repetitive Melody Revisit Chung Symphonie Espagnole, Lalo. Just notice melody in the opening of 5th movement is repeated as background throughout the movement (except the middle section). Other pieces with repetitive melody: Pachelbel Canon in D, the 4 bar (8 note) bass line is repeated over and over. Bach Passacaglia in c minor BWV582, the 15 note bass ground (I learnt the orchestrated version from the ballet screen in the opening of movie White Night) Ravel Bolero Another piece I learn from Moive (Dying Young) is the Tuba melody in 5th movement of Berloiz: Symphonie Fantastique

[#4244] From X with Y (1) Hello dear friends, By chance I got 2 sets of CDs from my down-and-out in east Europe. Seems nothing else is left with me but the pleasure of the music I like that might be able to console a paralysed and yet relentless mind. Here come the older Tch + Rach set by Richter and the 'price-killing' Beethoven symphonies by Cluytens (finally got it). ![]()

[#4256] H's h Hi Trazom, The following is the only Haydn harpsichord concertos CD that I have: Haydn: Harpsichord Concerto in D major, Hob. XVIII: 11 / Concerto for Violin, Harpsichord and Strings, Hob. XVIII: 6 / Symphony No. 31 "Horn Signal" Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra / János Rolla Hungaroton (White Label) HRC 088: ADD 1988 I bought it only last year at, I think, HMV. Any good? No complaints whatsoever, not that I am a judge on harpsichord playing, but due mainly to the CD's modest price at $30. For Haydn's keyboard concertos played on the harpsichord, the Penguin Guide recommends the Philips DUO. Oh, I also have a CD by a harpsichord ensemble, if that doesn't sound like too much of a good thing to you, you might be interested to know that it is: Vivaldi: Concertos for Flute, Oboe, Violin, Bassoon & Continuo, RV 99, RV 107, RV 88, RV 94, RV 106, & RV 90 "Il gardellino" The London Harpsichord Ensemble / Sarah Francis [1988] Unicorn-Kanchana DKP(CD) 9071: DDD 1988 Bought more than ten years ago -- rather too expensive at $110. And, on harpsichord concertos, C P E Bach's contributions also give great pleasure. For the second part of your inquiry, allow me to get back to you later. End of my coffee break. Cheers.
