[#4299] Brahms Piano Concerto No.2 Geza Anda Hi Trollope, Thanks for suggesting the DGG Mozart Requiem Julia Hamari, Karl Ridderbusch, etc Wiener Philharmoniker / Karl Böhm earlier this year. Just re-read you comments dated 05-01-24: At once sublime and beautiful -- a profound performance. But it can be quite sure that none of them (the others) could be anywhere near the status of the Bohm's, esp. in the "Lacrimosa".

[#4301] Brahms Piano Concerto No.2 Geza Anda Hi Eric, Welcome aboard -- a fellow owner of both Anda's Brahms 2nd piano concerto and Bohm's Requiem. My Anda's goes back to a DG Privilege CD (431 162-2) issued in 1990 or 1991, coupled with the Six Piano Pieces, op. 118 played by Whilhelm Kempff. A case of one plus one equals to a lot more than their sum total. There is an Anda all-Brahms Testament CD which should worth exploring (SBT 1068). Very high on my shopping list. Has anybody here been tempted by the Japanese DG SACD and/or the DG DVD of Bohm's Mozart Requiem (two different recordings) I mentioned about a week ago? As I don't have an SACD player, I will only consider the DVD, but I wonder if it's wise to buy yet another Mozart Requiem.

[#4305] Brahms Piano Concerto No.2 Geza Anda Hi Trollope, I've seen Mozart Requiem - Bohm under Philips label mono. When my boss saw the Mozart Requiem on Saturday, she said "Mozart Requiem? Is it written for you? That's good it is not Carmen again." From http://www.its.caltech.edu/~tan/Mozartreq/main.html The Requiem was commissioned by Count Walsegg. After Count Walsegg's wife died, he wanted to have two special memorials in her honor. One was a sculpture. The other was the Requiem, which was to be played annually on the anniversary of his wife's death. The Requiem was finally performed in a memorial for the Count's wife on December 14, 1793.

[#4307] Bohm's authoritative Mozart Requiem Hi trollope, I could not wait to get the Bohm Mozart Requiem DVD as soon as it was out last month - with an all-star line-up of soloist singers, who can resist it? As to the 1970s WPO version, certainly the recorded sound is superb, but at some places it sounds weightier. It is generally much slower (as you can see from the total playing time), comparing to the 1950s Wiener Symphoniker version on Philips (recently reissued on Japanese version). Alas, the 1970s DG version should be reissued on Originals - I just cannot see why Karajan's 1962 version keeps coming up in so many different series (Classikon, Resonance, Eloquence, and Originals!!) these few years whereas Bohm's or Fricsay's classic 1950s version (with Gruemmer, Pitzinger, Krebs and Hotter) does not.

[#4308] Bohm's authoritative Mozart Requiem Hi Wal, I was dimly aware that I would be told very soon the merits of the Bohm's DG DVD of Mozart Requiem (yes, Eric, it's the one I referred to). Thanks for your comments.

[#4316] The mystery of the P & C -- cont'd Thanks, Eric. The point I wanted to make about these Ps and Qs when I raised this issue last week: they do not signify, for they are not our "business", in every sense of the word. Instead, what we should be told are: (a) the recording date; and (b) the recording location. These facts are useful and very often essential informtion in our evaluation of a CD or an LP. In many of the early CDs (late 80s in particular), we are not told about them. There are also a considerable number of re-issues with these data missing, while remaining very particular about their Ps and Qs.

[#4317] The mystery of the P & C -- cont'd And thank you, Trazom, too. I think you are right. Let's assume that great minds think alike. I have yet to catch up with you on: "BTW Is there any Violin sonatas or Pn sonatas ( Mozart or Beethoven) that play with fortepiano that you can recommend for me?" ----- Hi Eric, I should have typed "Ps and Cs"; but the expression "mind one's p's and q's" is so solid in my mind that ... Well, never mind.
