| [#4422] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Hello all, First of all thanks to NEC to let me have the chance for a visit and auditon of his gear and his wonderful living room. Not much but quite want to say, as earlier I wrote here: the best match with TL12.1 is vintage Tannoy - why Kiewa put them both together as main fight on their web pages-------and you know why. For Red, it can give you 'full body of any music instruments' and human vocals - full body; that's what LS3/5As lack. (don't knock my head 3/5A fans) if you put the Pawn shop's Jazz drum and Eva's take me to the River, then you'll understand. Nelson's Red needs toe in and a stand to tilt it up for around 4-6 inches. It also need a super tweeter to enhance, not a must. An older WE300B to me is a MUST bringing out the it's most. I have heard the stage's depth and rolling of symphonic drums from back to front 30ft-20ft-10ft to yourself in WE300B play. Then when the drums arrive your body, you feel like being 'jing fook' and emotion involved almost knee down from sitting sofa. Such music waves big and small, from left to right, front and back zunami-ing behind your backwall - If you're poisoned, you're subjected to a penalty of $2000-$2500 for a pair. Tannoy Silver is more relax and mellow and poisionous that they stand for higher prices, and I'm glad to have chosen them and 12" is just fine for my much smaller room-hehe. Mr Q's spirit. My comment on the 755A: I think the WE type may sound much better, I think WE is with thiner magnet cover and the Altec is thinker magnet cover. The sound is simply wonderful if you listen to mid-range violin and vocal only. When playing piano bass and drums it's few streets behind Tannoy. If I got one, I will get KEF B139 football court to bass down from 755A's 70Hz limit. On top of 755A 13,000 Hz, I will get a G2 ribbon (becareful here horn super tweeter must not be OK to match, dare not to write more here to shorten up), Using tri-amp SEDHT for each units. This can kick away the Tannoy probably. However, fine tune and more technique is required. happy listening! Eric |

| [#4424] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Eric, Do you prefer DHSETA driving Tannoy Silver/Red over low power PP e.g. TL12.1? But I notice long term Tannoy Silver/Red users mostly tend to go back to low power PP after DHSTEA. |

| [#4429] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Tim & all, I prefer SEDHT to Tannoy silver/black- 100% sure. SEDHT less parts, simple circuit and no tweak, very easy to make bad sound, and difficult to pick right parts. Once well done, it's heaven. Even power is not enough, I will go to bi-amp and not to PP. For Red/Gold, they may need more power, PP is easy to get good sound and controlled bass. But it's performance is limited by either 'indirect' heated tubes. More of all, a tube phase spliter can NEVER be perfect in P/P balance. A transformer spliter is balance P/P, however it must have phase shift and freqency rolloff (this to me is more terrible than tube spliters) That said, I always agree with you that most common book shelf smaller speakers sounds better in PP pentode amps. This is true for sure in real listening. |

| [#4432] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user All Leakers I hesitate to say For UK KT66 amplifier, Leak may be an end. Before you "PING" me, please recommend another amplifier first. For those who prefer Quad II's balance sound, Sorry no offence here : ) (毒)獨孤求敗 : ) ---------------------------------------------- Gingers - Sorry to say..(嘿!) you have again forgot to mention about the wrong adaptor that has 2 unnecessary shunt resistors that affect the performance of YOUR Leak 12.1 and 25+ amps yesterday! But it seems to me, your ears automatically filter out the sonic weakness but Master Kwong was unbiased and detect the comparatively more balanced sound in the QUAD II. Haha! You should invite Master KWONG to listen to your LEAK TL/12.1 to A-B compare with NEC's QUAD II, both driven by NEC's FISHER 50C preamps again. That time, you should use the right adaptor with your LEAK TL/12.1. Richard |

| [#4433] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Richard Do you also think NEC's Quad II + 50 C + Red (This combo is not related to any resisters adapter) is better than 12.1 + 400CX-2 + Red? No offence here. I need your own comment, please : ) John |

Haha! ------------------------------- Is it also your comment? Why did you always move Master Kwong in this topic : ) ---------------------------------------- Gingers, Honestly, this is ALSO my impression. I mentioned KWONG simply becauase he was one of the listeners yesterday and he spoke to me clearly. Besides, I did find your LEAK 12.1 and 25+ driven by the 400CX-2 to sing far too musical yesterday. My ears are not as strong as yours! The 400CX-2 has more drive than the 50C obviously. This is the reason why there may be the 'illusion' that 50C is not as good as the 400CX-2. If on a fair basis, i.e. no adaptor to reduce the drive of 50C, the 50C should win. I have listened to the 50C at my home for a long time. Though I have only the 400CX (not the CX-2), I have listened to the 400CX-2 on various occasions. The matters is clear to me. End of the topic. ^__^ |

I still remember I have never said that 50 C + 12.1 with empty adapter + RED sounds dull. My ears justified the performance yesterday and your comment is a future tense. Anyways you may be right. 50C + 12.1 without any resistors + Red .....MAY BE better. John |

| [#4440] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Hi all Leakers, The conclusion always ended at ~~ we have different ears and different tastes. I am grateful to Richard who expressed his comments here. I opened this thread in order to share our experience. The Leak gears are not all of my collection. I am open to all tube amplificers which sound best to my ears. The above is also suitable in the LS3/5A Club. All comments either good or bad commetns are welcome. Thank again to Richard. John |

| [#4441] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user Thanks a lot for those masters visiting my very old flat (as old as vintage Tannoy GRF, the Leak amps and Altec 755A) yesterday, and I learnt very much from Master Kwong, rcwy, Gingers, JC and his friends, diytfy, Anthony and M9 hings. As said by me before, I think different gears and combination of them may suit for various personal taste and music, nothing is absolute and impossible, just like you can't imagine the old and poor cheap WE speakers can sound so nice, natural and real for violin and vocals. |
