I thought it should be a simple hooking up the amplifier (pre-amp included) with the speakers. So how does the “shunt resistor” come into place? IMHO the 'fair basis' is referring to life music/ instrument. Of course a singer (or saxophone) can sound differently everyday in various concert hall. On the other hand he or she will never sound like a jet plane. In other words a soprano can imitate the sound of a bird, but she can never sings like a bird. That is the basis for Hi-Fi. After all Hi-Fi stands for high fidelity, right? PS (1) the RGRF with 15” Red that Gingers posted is a nice piece of “equipment”. It has good potential. I have some pass experience...When A got a gear and playing well and his own home, they might not be the same as B home and as vice versa, When B take his own gear to A home B's gear might also lost....There as nothing set up to fair....To be fair is too difficult la...

Also, when you compared the performance of Tannoy RED with Rogers LS3/5a, you did not mention the 'huge' area that can absorb every sound wave from the tiny LS3/5A, is it fair to the latter?

(1) BTW IMHO again, I always see the Tannoy being an older and bigger version of L3/5A!
Of course they are not the same but share a lot of similarity, sound wise.

(2) Obviously the 15” Alnico Tannoy has better bass and mid, when placed into a proper cabinet, say compares to the L3/5A.

(3) The 15” Silver is a better music instrument when A/B with the 15” Red/ Gold/ HDP. It is all hidden in the mid to low-mid bass. It is like homemade dark chocolate versus kid's lollypop. Do not you agree that specific area is the stronghold for Tannoy? Will you believe people are stupid enough to pay extra $ for the Silver 15” if the Red/ Gold/ HDP 15” can out perform it?

(4) Never own the Blacks so I can see my own limitation. Cheer!
