| [#4500] Mozart Hi erictang, I have the highlight CDs of both Bohm and Giulini sets. Perhaps because I am used to a more dramatic voice for Don Giovanni, I find Fischer-Dieskau somehow unsuitable for the role. Long ago, I tried at a CD shop the 1977 set with Sherill Milnes as Don Giovanni. He is, to me, very close to Cesare Siepi; his Rigoletto is an all-time best version.  |

| [#4502] Beethoven -- historic recordings Do I have your envy as I am at the moment listening to Disc 2: Annie Fischer + Fricsay in 1957 + the meltingly poetic Largo in Beethoven's third piano concerto? (Is this recording otherwise obtainable I wonder?) And, Fricsay's 1960 B7 with the BPO awaits me in about twenty minutes, after I have stretched my legs. Plus, I am playing this disc at this hour of the day. Well my friends, I have earned my half-day break.  |

| [#4503] Martzy Most of the time I find Martzy somewhat mannered. The one I like most is this trio CD. She's straightforward and her colleagues are just super. Istvan Hajdu and Paul Szabo should be familiar from many Grumiaux recordings. These are actually my favorite versions of these works, bar none. Recordings are super too.  |

| [#4504] Thin ice I know I am skating on thin ice, but can I say it (briefly) here instead of in the other thread to avoid the fierce crossfire. I have done some blind tests (I have no SACD player) on the first two tracks (oh no not the entire thing thank you). The improvement that has been done to the SACD is loud and clear. No doubt about it. The vocal part does not witness significant enhancement though, but then I don't think it needs to be improved on significantly. As the CD is already good enough for a Canto-pop audio product (allow me the prejudice), I think it's rash to jump on the bandwagon to buy the SACD at a few hundred dollars. Perhaps a DSD remastered CD should be a wise choice if you are not an owner yet. I for one would not be prepared to pay more than $200 for the SACD (and that is, to a large extent, on account of the extra songs, particularly 愛是無涯.) My SACD is a library item.  |

| [#4506] Fricsay-Beethoven und Klemperer-Fischer Hello trollope, Yes, I do not have the set you've got. Beethoven's piano concerto No.3 is indeed my favourite, I like it more than No.5. I borrowed it from library long time ago and was thrill by the Fricsay-Fischer collaboration. But I was over-excited by my find at HMV during my Japan trip 2.5 years ago. Oh ... how can they manage to reissue all these long-lost items and sometimes do it so frequently?  |
