| [#446] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Mr Ng, Thanks for the info about the 44A volume pot. What's the type of 250k volume pot you are using, would like to try later. I made a mistake about the Daven pot last time, it should be 1 db and 5 db per channel, now I'm able to get a very smooth sound from the 44A by only using the 5db pot. Yesterday, me and Gordan went to visit Mr Wu, he dug up some Japanese 600 Ohm pot(sliding rule type)from his collections, its made for studio use in the 70's, preliminary listening impression is good, if it works with the 44A, it could possibly solve the gain problem as well as the problem associated with volume pots. |

| [#453] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Gordan, The Japanese vol pot does not sound good in my place,its too thick to obstruct clarity, the high is missing and most importantly, it diminishes the color of the WE ball tube sound. With this vol pot in place, WE44A sounds like an ordinary preamp in my place, I stress, in my place only, it may sound different in other systems.So its worth to try Mr Ng's version, a 250K in the input and a 600 OHM in the output. By the way, I'm available in Tuesday only. |

| [#454] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Gordan, I forgot to mention, after getting rid of the 1db Daven pot, I reconnect the Blackgate 10,000uf in the 102G filament to replace the Nippon-chem,the BG does not sound bright at all though a little tight, which I believe will go away over time.The 205D cannot go along with any newer design caps, older Mallory cap is still its favourite. |
