[#4718] Mozart Symphonies Hi Wal & all, Talking about Mozart Symphony Conductors, the first one come to my mind is Sir Charles Mackerras (Prague Chamber Orch.) and then John E.Gardiner (The English Baroque Soloists) other than J. Tate, They are most "Mozartian" and also I like the vivid tempo they play.(I dont have Pinnock nor Fricsay) J.Tate with Mitsuko Uchida and Gardiner with M. Bilson are also my favorities. There are so many Mozart Conductors that i haven't meet, so please share yours!!

[#4720] Natural Mozartian Hey guys, sorry to barge in on your conversation on Mozart's symphonies. Josef Krips has my vote as the most natural of Mozartians. By all means try his Nos. 40 & 41 with the Concertgebouw Orchestra (r.1972) on Philips. While we are on Nos. 40 & 41, the next best things are offered by Bernstein with the VPO (DG) and Böhm with the BPO (also DG).

[#4722] Natural Mozartian Hello trazom, trollope and friends, BTW, Which of Mozart's operas do you have? For Krips, I got his Don Giovanni on Decca Legends - good drama and well-paced. Well, after hearing his Schubert No.8, I had second thought about his Mozart Nos. 40 & 41 when I saw it in CD shop...

[#4729] Prokofiev Hi Tanuski, See your point! Her silky bowing interacts lyrically with the wind, string (bass) and percussion...then sparkling cadenza and reaching the climax of the last movement (Burlesque Allegro con brio) Enjoy!! Erictang Thanks your inf. how is Ma's concert?

[#4730] Yo-yo Ma Concert Hi Trazom and friends, It's a pity I'm sitting at (back of) the stage and cannot see his facial expression, bowing, fingering... etc. His playing is sweet. Bach cello suite No.6 is a difficult piece, and he managed it very well. There are 2 encore pieces, the first one is in a Chinese tune, sounds like 二胡. The second one is (I think) only played on the upper two strings (D & A). Throughout the piece, the melody is accompanied by either a sustained D or A played on the open string. (Hope you can get the picture) I like this kind of (double note) harmony. Again, it is a pity I cannot see his bowing, fingering. Did anyone else attend the concert last night?

[#4735] 慎買多聽 Thanks BilDub. I will try the Bohm's (DG) Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail. I'm a bit hesitate about mono recording, especially on orchestal work.

[#4736] DEADS Bohm's is stereo. I think your Hifi is a hi-end one so you should be enjoying / experiencing another joy of listening to mono recording... My hifi is simple and humble Cambridge, when I play Moralt's DEADS, em... it's like listening to voice from Mars... But my hifi is very good, it's my 親密戰友.

[#4737] Bartok & Prokofiev's piano concertos Hi Trazom, I don't have complete sets of piano concertos by Bartók and Prokofiev. On Bartók, No.2 is the only one I have (two Richter versions). Of the five Prokofiev concertos, Richter has only played No.1 and 5. I recommend his No.5. Prokofiev's No.3 concerto by Byron Janis (on Mercury) is another one I enjoy. It would not be a bad idea to invest in this: Tchaikovsky: Piano Concertos Nos. 1-3* Prokofiev: Piano Concerto No. 5 in G minor, op. 55** Bartók: Piano Concerto No. 2, Sz 83***# Emil Gilels* / Sviatoslav Richter**# / New Philharmonia Orchestra* / London Symphony Orchestra** / Orchestre de Paris*** / Lorin Maazel [1972, 1970, 1969] EMI (double forte) 7243 5 68637 2 9: ADD 1995 (2 CDs)
