[#4738] Hermione Gingold Hi Eric, I have the same thing on CD. Gingold's narration is a pleasure all the way. There is no lack of characterful contributors to Peter & the Wolf. I have heard Sir John Gielgud, Sir Ralph Richardson, Dudley Moore, and Sean Connery, or more ... I forgot. But Gingold's remains the most memorable of them all.

[#4739] 後宮誘逃 - 素菜版 I am not qualified to join the discussion on Die Entführung, as my only version is a vegetarian one. Mozart: Die Enteführung aus dem Serail -- Harmoniemusik Amadeus Winds / Bastiaan Blomhert [1988] Decca (Editions de L'Oiseau-Lyre) 425 690-2: DDD 1990

[#4740] "make one's life a work of art" - H James Hi Tanuski, I raise my flag to your Miró photo (05-11-08 10:04): the gentleman in communication with the bright colours and abstract shapes. And I salute this splendid work of the photographer (keen eyes, quick fingers, and above all broad humanity) who has made his life a work of art. I can imagine the Spanish surrealist (1893-1983!) would have smiled too.

[#4743] Mozart Operas Hi Bildub, erictang and trollope, As to Die Entfhrung, I would recommend Krips stereo recording on EMI. I like it because of Frick, Gedda and Popp. And, trollope, I guess you may want to get one set with Krips (?). To me, the cast here is in every way comparable to his earlier mono recording with Decca (see next msg for info). __________________________ MOZART Die Entfhrung aus dem Serail Anneliese Rothenberger, Lucia Popp, Nicolai Gedda, Gerhard Unger, Gottlob Frick Chor der Wiener Staatsoper Wiener Philharmoniker Josef Krips Mid-price Opera 0777 7 63263 2 0 (2CD) --- interestingly, the pic on EMI still shows the old version. ![]()

[#4746] Mozart Operas Hi doctorjohn, The video is a coloured one - artificially done like one of Bogart's movies. But it is very acceptable and so is the sound quality. It's good that DG releases this kind of historic shows at affordable price. I got this some time ago and I guess it may be re-issued with another cover like Karajan's Verdi Requiem. BTW, once I happened to be taking a look at Unitel's website and saw some items in their archive - I contemplated an Italian Job for this company!

I know that the CDs are available in HMV Japan. I'd like to try Nos 3 & 5 first but in the Japanese edition they are not on the same CD. ... You got some clue for me ? |

[#4752] Mozart Operas ________________________ Hi Trollope and others, Thanks for the kind support. I am also a big fan of Juan Mir. He is one of the great colorist in the history of mankind. Paul Klee is within the range, while Picasso had great sense also (if one look carefully.) Unfortunately subject matter (the urge of story telling) was too immense for Pablo that he had very little space to demonstrate his talent in the cosmos of color. The following is a link to the Miro Foundatoion (Fundaci Mir) in Barcelona: http://www.bcn.fjmiro.es/ I am posting another artist I love dearly. It is the mobile of Alexander Calder! I believe he is totally underrated. If you find the work interesting, please go to his web site and have a great visual trip: http://www.calder.org/# ________________________ ![]()

[#4753] Mozart Operas Hello trazom, I must thank you for your kindness. But right now I am really having difficulty in sparing budget for CDs ... you know, if I were to go for Backhaus this time, I would want the whole cycle plus the Brahms concertos too. Do you have the 10 CD Decca boxset you mentioned before? Could you perhaps share your comments on Schmidt-Isserstedt conducting the symphonies too? ![]()
