[#4779] Cats, Pets Thanks so much Eric. My mum opposes that and I'm too unstable to keep a cute thing beside me... sigh ! May I say a word on the subject? Cats, dogs, parrots... are never pets for me. They are my beloved kids and friends... Am I too silly to think so? With such thinking I am not qualified to bring them home right? - . - But actually I haven't had any cat/dog... I only had several goldfish, all passed away... ay

[#4781] Lalo - Symphonie Espangnole Another attractive Lalo Symphonie Espagnole recording with very good sonic effect (P 1963). My copy is LP (re-issued??) I have only listened to the first 3 movements, Gerumiaux's playing is marvellous especially the 3rd movement. Arthur Grumiaux Lamoureux Concerts Orchestra/Manuel Rosenthal

[#4782] Klemperer Hi Wal, Much impressed by your Klemperer collection. Somewhat surprisingly, I have none of the Klemperers you have posted so far, but then I don't have that many. These are his Beethoven CDs that I have. ![]()

[#4786] Marcelle Meyer trollope: Glad you enjoyed the Meyer. Actually the 2 "rarissme" sets constitute Vol. 3 of the previous Introuvables series. I also have the Volume 2, which is mostly Bach, plus Mozart and Schubert. I still need Vol. 1. Intersting how these older pianists play. Personally I much like the old French pianists like Cortot, Nat, Perlmuter etc.

[#4787] Klemperer Hello trollope, I have Klemperer's Fidelio on that same old edition as you do. His Beethoven Eroica is often hailed as the definitive version and it does earn the praise.

[#4788] Klemperer __________________________________ Piet Mondrian cont. The second point is: unlike Kandinsky and Delaunay who was well receipt and exhibited widely after their debut, Mondrian spent 23 years in Paris and never had a solo! He had to support himself as a porcelain painter for his whole life. Some art historians use it as an explanation on why he has no interest in expressing nature! After all drawing flowers 8 hours a day is more than any man can take. It is obvious that he had strong affection towards modern high-rise. New York City is the place where he ended his life, a city that fulfilled his art. Considering his origin being Cubism and his love for the city’s architectural structure, it is no surprise to find him concluded his statement with vertical and horizontal lines. Thus it is a lot easier to appreciate his art. __________________________________ ![]()

[#4789] MOMA cont. ________________________________ Guys, The World is a rounded ball! It is always fun to see history as a tightly netted universe. Music, art, scientific developments are close cousins. For an instant by the time MOMA gave Piet Mondrian his first solo (actually his retrospective) in 1945, it was the year Bartok passed away. Over the other side of the hemisphere, Japan earned 2 atomic bombs and China was freed… PS Bildub, where did you acquire all the knowledge of Art? Do not tell me you are self-taught. I am quite amazed! Enclosed is the new photography, a sequence by Robin Rhode. ________________________________ ![]()

[#4792] (Haydnesque+Beethovenian)/2 = Schubertian Hi Wal, you will be interested to know that following your advice & now very much sharing your high opinion of Kertész, I bought this set this afternoon. The early symphonies are aptly Haydnesque and very pleasing to the ear 悠揚細膩之至; while the later ones, with their Beethovenian grandeur, are magnificently done. On the whole, these accounts 恢宏端正又不失婉轉有致,Kertész 甚有氣魄,風格圓熟,殊少敗筆。 HMV Central, $169. ![]()
