| [#4872] Leak meets Tannoy Silver 15" Nelson Marantz 7 is very good for Colin's Tannoy Silver. The sound is more relax in the mid and the 400CX-2 sounded a bit tight & bright if compared with M7. The conclusion is Nelson should CUT LOVE the 400CX-2 to me and buy the M7 at once. haha : ) John John  |

What are the 12AX7s used inside the M7? I recall that we auditioned the 400CX2 the other day. The preamp did improve quite a lot when we replaced the two unknown 12AX7s with a pair of ECC803Ss. I guess the preamp can do much better simply with, say, a pair of TFK or Mullard long plates. Just my two cents JL |

| [#4880] Leak meets Tannoy Silver 15" Nelson, JL, The FISHER 400CX-2 uses 12AX7 and 7247 tubes, in addition to 6V4, the rectifier. So, you are basically playing with ECC803S/ECC83/12AX7 which has a lot options, cheap to exortic, depending on your budget. You don't got a lot choices in respect of 7274 and 6V4. Perhaps TFK 7247 the best and Mullard/Amperex 6V4. The TFK 7247 is not cheap nowadays as they are getting rare. The 6V4 is quite abundant in eBAy. |
