| [#5000] Runwang Hi doctorjohn, In my attempt to trace the sources of individual recordings of the Runwang / Nimbus [?] 8 CD-set we have talked about recently, I discover to my pleasant surprise that Disc 5 is in fact a copy of Nimbus NI 7701, played by Shura Cherkassky in 1985. Now, that means of the 8 CDs, only 4 are played by Perlemuter. It's a mystery why Runwang 潤旺, obviously having obtained the Nimbus licence, does not reproduce for us the all-Perlemuter 6-CD set (NI 1764), but instead giving us this mixed bag of two composers and five pianists. Anyway, this means that there are two more Perlemuter's Chopin discs I have to look for: (1) the sonatas [NI 5038]; and (2) the four Ballades and two Polonaises [NI 5209]. Here you are, the revised track list of the set, with additional data from my little research: Disc 1 [originally NI 5095, recorded 1982-83] [pianist: Vlado Perlemuter] Études, opp. 10 & 25 Trios Nouvelles Études Disc 2 [originally NI 5393, recorded 1986-1992] [pianist: Vlado Perlemuter] Scherzo No. 3, op. 39 Mazurkas, op. 59 nos. 1-3 Mazurkas, op. 63 nos. 1-3 Mazurkas, op. 24 no. 2 Mazurka, op. 33 no. 4 Mazurka, op. 41 nos. 1, 4 Mazurka, op. 56 nos. 2-3 Mazurka, op. 68 no. 4 Mazurka, op. 17 no. 4 Mazurka, op. 30 no. 4 Mazurka, op. 50 no. 3 Tarentelle, op. 43 Disc 3 [originally NI 5012, recorded 1984] [pianist: Vlado Perlemuter] Nocturnes Nos. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 16, 17 Disc 4 [originally NI 5064, recorded 1981-82] [pianist: Vlado Perlemuter] 24 Preludes, op. 28 Prelude in C sharp minor, op. 45 Fantasy in F minor, op. 49 Berceuse, op. 57 Disc 5 [originally NI 7701, recorded 1985] (pianist: Shura Cherkassky) Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise in E flat, op. 22 Sonata No. 3 in B minor, op. 58 Liszt: Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 Liszt: Sonata in B minor Disc 6 [originally JVC VICC-60387, released 2004] (pianist: Daniel-Ben Pienaar) 4 Ballades 3 Nocturnes, op.9 nos.1, 2, & 3 Impromptu No. 1, op. 29 Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise in E flat, op. 22 Disc 7 [from another Runwang CD: ABS 004] (pianist: Daniele Dechenne) 1. | [#5007] Leonore III --- Celi & Klemperer Hi BilDub, Of the three Leonore, No.3 is also my favorite. There are two old recordings I would like to draw your attention to. The first one is a 10 November 1946 BPO recording with Celibidache conducting. Here is the young Romanian during his BPO years (1945-1954) as Furtwängler's assistant. This CD was released by Tahra in France in 1997 (TAH 271). The coupling is Brahms' fourth symphony recorded a year before. The other is even older. It's a 1927 recording of the 42-year-old Otto Klemperer conducting the Berlin State Opera Orchestra. It's on DG 453 804-2. Re-visit the photo I posted on 05-10-25 11:11. |

| [#5008] Leonore III --- Celi & Klemperer Thanks Trollope! I think it'll be a bit difficult to find the Tahra recording... Celibidache attracts me in general, though I don't like his Brahms 4 on EMI. Klemperer interests me very very much. I wonder how his magic will be on LO3. I have a few Beethoven symphonies, and Klemperer is my favourite (even better than Kleiber, I think...) |

| [#5009] Brendel Agree with Trazom that Brendel is a very good at playing Mozart. Just listen to his lively playing of Mozart Piano Concerto No.21 with Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields / Marriner Also listen to the same piece played by Ingrid Haebler with London Symphony Orchestra / Witold Rowicki Haebler's playing is also very good, different style and her tempo is slower than Brendel. |

| [#5013] Perlemuter Hi trollope: What a crazy Runwang issue! I just checked. I can find the NI Perlemuter Ballades CD. Should you like I can copy it for you. I should have the sonata CD also back in NYC. My curiosity got the better of me and I googled the other 3 pianists. Indeed Pienaar is bona fide. Daniele Dechenne appears to be a pianist pedagogue with no really known recordings. And the only Bernd Ahlert I could find is a guitarist! Since I'm a conspiracy theory man, could some of the CDs be fake names while they are something else? In the old days, lots of fake name orchestras with fake name conductors on small labels. |
