| [#5063] Beethoven sym. Walter's Pastorale Symphony is excellent and highly praised. The picture you shown is the original LP cover. It is now a collection item and the price of a good condition one is very high. I got a later Great Performances edition only which is much more affordable.  |

With Rattle's live recording of the eighth with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra released earlier this year, he completes his Mahler cycle. I only have his: No. 2 "Resurrection" (CBSO [1986]) EMI CDS 7 47962 8: DDD 1987 (2 CDs) No. 3 (CBSO [1997]) EMI 7342 5 56657 2: DDD 1998 (2 CDs) No. 5 (BPO [2002]) 1. Toshiba EMI TOCE-55463: DDD 2002 2. EMI 7243 4 90326 9 9: 2003 (1 DVD + DVD-Audio) The "Resurrection" remains his greatest achievement, but Klemperer's account on EMI and Barbirolli's on Testament are justly famous. In any case, Rattle's CDs are in full price. So, he (or we) can wait. But I can see that if the whole lot of them are available in a mid-price boxset, many newly-recruited Mahler fans will find it their 1st choice. |

I guess you paid less than that now. |

| [#5068] Walter's "Pastoral" Hi lym, erictang, & friends, My Walter's "Pastoral" is the even more affordable CD in Sony's "Bruno Walter Edition", coupled with the fourth symphony, recorded in 1958, costing $65 or so. 要體味一下 Walter 那眾口皆譽的藝術氣質，這是入門首選，很文雅，但又不是女性化的那一種，yes，叫儒雅吧。如果要欣賞深邃而又氣魄宏大的 Walter，大概不能不找來他的 Bruckner 第九。 |
