| [#501] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Mr Wu,I'll go to your workshop on Friday afternoon, Gordan will bring along a pair of Jensen RP302 to try out the caps in the dividing network using your JBL as reference. My previous experience when RP302 are used to beef up the highs of my WE755A, WE 21CB is the best choice when 2 caps are connected to yield 0.5uf.WE all know capacitors tend to add a sound character to a system,be good or bad its only a matter of severity, but WE21CB seems has no sound of its own,it is specially good in coupling,but nearly all WE21CB are leaking, I guess a slight leak will do no harm in this application. |

| [#513] Western Electric amps and 西電胡 Peter, I have had experience on SANGAMO caps before, the characteristic is between Mollory and Sprague but more towards to MOLLORY. Western Electric primarily only OEM CORNELL-DUBILIER (CDE) and SANGAMO under their label, there may be some exception but not too many, there must be a reason behind. I like the MOLLORY the most because of the strong characteristic of blood, meat and bone; particularly the Red-Blue paper; just nothing can replace it. Out of the 3 Sprague is just not my cup of tea. In a good term you can call it thick in sound but in my term is just sluggish, fatty, muddy and transparentless. Recently I replace my 44A filament caps with Sprague (9200UF 15VDC, 1000UF 50VDC& 1000UF 50VDC, It was very disappointed move and I will replace them back to MOLLORY upon I can find the right value. Mr. Wu's 86B is an excellent amp; most properly one of the best I ever heard. The only disadvantage is there is a 8%-10% lack of HF transparent, but from mid-high to bass 86b is unbeatable regardless any amps that $$$$$ can buy. Therefore no Sprague caps should be in my system. I hope this help. Have a good one. |
