| [#5238] Sibelius concerto Hi Trazom, Yes, I can accept mono if the player really play very good. Besides, I feel mono can give more focus to the leading violin. Do you feel so? I do have some mono records, such as Milstein, Michael Rabin, Zino Francescatti, etc...but so far no mono in string quartet..... |

| [#5248] Bell on Heifetz trollope: Did Bell say anything about Oistrakh?? BTW, a friend tells me she really likes the Suwani Bruch concerto but did not like anything else. Seems to fit with your preference. She's looking for the Bruch but it seems out of print and hard to get. On Sibelius: I think of all Heifetz recordings the Sibelius and the Scottish Fantasy are the best. The Mendelssohn is not very listenable to me. On Mendelssohn: Another VERY good one is Szeryng (Philips)! |

| [#5249] Bell on Heifetz doctorjohn, He did, on the following pages. Here are some excerpts: "Violinist A thought of the piece in big terms and kind of pushed through. He didn't dwell on the details, at least not with tempo. Violinist C, for my taste, had a less intelligent approach than B. I found that certain things in the performance did not make sense. He put on the brakes at certain points where the music did not call for it, but it seems as if almost for technical reasons or being musically lazy. But he suddenly jarred me out of the story a couple of times. On the other hand, there were some incredibly beautiful moments, in taking the time to caress certain things. But there was a less of a thought-out architecture to the performance, though it had interesting moments. I think he took a lot more time at certain places, it added sounds to the performance." | [#5250] Bell on Heifetz "It was beautiful playing, very open, a little turgid at times, at the beginning it was a little slow, the transition too. Parts were a little bit plodding." (p.356) |

| [#5251] Bell on Heifetz trollope: How delightful! I just checked the thread one last time before going to bed and got my answers. Ha! That Oistrakh thing. Sometimes I cannot make up my mind about him too... I enjoyed the Bell bit and concurred mostly. Thanks for the posts. Happy New Year and good night! |
