Last night, I watched a DVD by one of the greatest tenor of our time, Domingo as Otello. The story was based on one word: Jealousy. Domingo and Te Kanawa act and sing most convincingly, stage design and costume was satisfactory, and the conducting by Solti was never short of drama and energy. All in all, an enjoyable program.

Vengerov is my favorite violinist, personally I found his playing passionate while technically brilliant. Although I respect violinist from older generation like Oistrakh and Heifetz, I do believe that they are surpassed by the violinist of the new generation like Vengerov and Shaham.

His Dvorak violin concerto was my reference version, and his Tchaikovsky cannot be bettered, both recording are playing that combining passion and excitment while not lacking in sensitivity.

bruckner 9 同 schubert 8 一樣都係"格式上"未它成，

但意境上已是天人合一，混然忘我。

朱里尼晚年這一版本一語記之曰「恢宏大度」。

After finish watching the final act of Otello on DVD mentioned yesterday, I immediately extracted some memorable sence from this classic performance of Otello by Serafin, Vickers and Gobbi.

Without doubt, Domingo was one of the greatest tenor of our time, but don't forget Vickers, Vicker was more vulerable than Domingo, if Domingo was the hero, Vicker bring out the fallibility of a great hero, and eventually lead to the tragedy.

Rysanek's voice was not as smooth as Sutherland, but her voice was infused with emotion, her singing of the `willow's song' vividly depicted the sadness of an innocent lady being accused of betrayal.

The living stereo's recording maintained its usual high standard. Despite the arrival of DVD, I would not like to live without this excellent account of Otello.

Last night, London symphony by Vaughan Williams, I am not very familiar with the music but this piece of music are easy to accept.

EMI's recording were very good.

No way! At least not from violinists points of view. Heifetz remains unsurpassed technically. The new generations of violinists may enjoy the better, modern recording technological advances, hence the better tone colors from their violin. But the some techniques, especially romantic traditions of playing are lost. Quite a pity!

我反而覺得在「全球一體化」、「培訓規格化」的趨勢下，藝術家自身的性格很容易全被磨平，變得千篇一律。上個世紀初中葉時期那股強調個人演奏風格的時代亦不復存在。

Anyway, it is a pity that I cannot hear Heifetz, Oistrakh, Stern or even Menuhin live, comparison base on records are unfair to the older generation violinist due to difference in recording technology. But judging from Hiliary Hahn's live performance of Brahms's violin concerto, she already equipped with the brilliant violin technique of the best fiddler, while her playing was warm and affectionate, I was left speechless but applause.

Last night, I listened to Haydn's symphony, I have a complete 33 disc box of all 104 Haydn's symphony, every time I want a Haydn symphony, I just pick one disc out at random. But to my surprise, every symphony have something slightly different, Haydn experiment the sound of every instrument in the orchestral, making his symphony sound like concerto somtimes. Haydn infused his sense of humor into his symphony, and you will never bored. All in all, a very interesting and entertaining cycle for casual listening.
