[#5434] ETSC & ETRC & ESAC Members (44) Richard; How much to spend on your 28mm-105mm? 28mm is not wide enough as this equal to 38.4mm in 35 film camera.

[#5437] ETSC & ETRC & ESAC Members (44) Stone/Lym, My typo. Mine is 24-105mm IS USM IS = image stablizing (SAME as in 傻瓜機?) USM = ultra-sonic motor, for fast focusing. Don't know why the numbers should multiply by 1.6 to be equivalent to film camera. So, the film camera equivalent of the zoom lens is 38 mm - 168 mm, should be good for use in many occasions. ![]()

[#5439] ETSC & ETRC & ESAC Members (44) "Don't know why the numbers should multiply by 1.6 to be equivalent to film camera. " It's because the focal length is quoted base on the size of the traditional 135mm film. In non full frame DSLR, the size of the sensor for capturing the image is smaller than the 135mm film. This resulted in that a portion of the outer circumfrance of the image which would otherwise been captured by a 135mm film is now fallen outside the sensor. Hence the focal length is effectively a 1.6x or 1.5x (depending on the sensor size) of the 135mm based measurement. This however does not apply to a full frame DSLR where the sensor size matches that of the 135mm film.

[#5441] ETSC & ETRC & ESAC Members (44) Don't know why the numbers should multiply by 1.6 to be equivalent to film camera. ------------------------------------------------- It's relate to the size of camera's CCD. The larger size CCD, the higher cost. So, the full frame DSLR charges over20K. Meanwhile, canon also provide a series of EFS lens for those kind of cam(x1.6) useage. Like 60Marco (=90mm), 10-22 ultra wide (=16-35.2mm) DSLR is another world for photograph, Enjoy!!!

[#5444] ETSC & ETRC & ESAC Members (44) I think r's 24-105 is versatile enough for most daily filming. Depending on his preference, he may get a super wide or a tele to supplement it later on.
