There are two main school of image stablizing (or vibration reduction), one is by compensation mechanism incorporated to the image sensor (i.e. the sensor move to compensate image vibration). The other is compenation mechanism built within the lens element (i.e. the lens element within the lens moves to compensate image vibration). The former one is used in most compact DC and some brands like Pentax or Sony. It is a cheaper scheme (compensation built inside camera body and all lens mounted on it benefit from it). The latter one is adopted mainly by Canon and Nikon, it is a more expensive scheme since each lens has to come with its own compensating mechanism for it to benefit from such. The up side is that lens based anti-shake is arguably offering more effective anti-shake tolerance (some can save up to 4 shutter speed stops) comparing to sensor based mechanism . |

Though this kit len with plastic elements but it still reach the normal standard on image and color quality. I had taken many beautiful pictures using the kit len and the cheap Canon EF75-300 (bought in Japan for 9000yen). Remember, good picture is not from the camera, THE MAN BEHIND THE CAMERA. |

How to use lens is an ART, also a technic. You have to understand the lens performance.
