[#5558] Jacqueline du Pre in Portrait A labour of love from the producer Christopher Nupen. I look forward to the re-issue of "Jean Sibelius" on DVD. I have the LP but my player for it is no more. ![]()

[#5562] 情陷撒哈拉 Hi doctorjohn, just sacrificed a large amount of my sleep and finished watching "The Sheltering Sky". Debra Winger is as seductive as the Sahara. Ryuichi Sakamoto's music fits the whole thing like a glove.

[#5563] 情陷撒哈拉 Haha! Indeed, Debra Winger at her best in a strange and uneven, though gripping, movie! Great score indeed!

[#5564] WTC - Gould Hi trollope, I don't have other WTC except from a few pieces by Gould. Gould's touching is with great clarity. I like listening to contrapuntal fugue passages and prefer those playing the melodic line in clarity.

[#5565] Beethoven Symphony No.5 Just listen to Beethoven Symphony No.5. Philharmonia Orchestra / Klemperer. You may find his playing is heavy, tempo is slow. But the music is moving with clarity and detail. Interesting score from: http://research.yale.edu/yso/contact/auditions/ Part of the 3rd movement is in fugue form. And the fugue line starts with cello & bass ![]()

[#5571] Klemperer und Mozart Reading scores ... ! As erictang opens up a talk of Klemperer, I will of course be tempted to join. Yes, Grandeur and Truthfulness are, among others, the usual words - if not cliche - that you often see in comments on Klemperer's Beethoven. The slow tempo and broadness unveils the conductor's careful emphasis on the string and the woodwind. His approach to Mozart's symphonies and overtures are prime exemplars of this. ![]()

[#5572] Klemperer's even slower B5 Hello fans, Do you like the Toscanini-Kleiber(s)-Reiner-Karajan cult of speed more, or Klemperer ? --- that's not a good question, I admit. The version shown below presents a First Mvt of 9 mins and 5 secs! ![]()

[#5573] Klemperer's even slower B5 However, the young Fricsay plays it very slowly, too - 9 mins 10 secs ! But it's not as exciting as Klemperer to me, though I am also a Fricsay fan - hm ... ![]()
