[#5598] Franck Violin Sonata Here is one of my Collection (CD) Henryk Szeryng / Violin Mindru Katz / Piano Recorded :1973 Label: Cembal d"amour CD 105 (stereo) http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.asp?pid=1285115&style=music&cart=329514674&BAB=E From the booklet: ...Franck dedicated this sonta to the great violinist Eugene Ysaye, whose style of playing undoubltedly inspired the composer. The Allegretto moderato is a meditative mood-setter. The Allegro is impetuous and energetic with the irresistable animato poco a poco secion that never fails to induce a dangerous level of excitement. The Recitative-Fantasia is a flashback to the first movement, but with violent outbursts of energy. The Allegretto poco mosso is like a love duet that comes to a spring-like conclusion.... A powerful chemistry between two great masters.... beautiful tone and immaculate phrasing. Agree with Eric's comment on Chung & Lupu's preformance, Still the best of my choice on Franck violin sonata

[#5599] Franck Violin Sonata I like Chung's Franck violin sonata, eg 激情 & forceful in the last movement. (from 3min36sec onwards) However, her Zigeunerweisen in this CD (from ~6min onwards) is not 狂野 enough when compare to artist like Mutter. The pizzicatos is no Accardo. Anyway, these pieces are of different style. ![]()

[#5600] Franck Violin Sonata Bought a few CDs today. 3 of them are Sibelius. The tempo of Accardo’s Sibelius is a bit slow but moving. Accardo and the orchestra’s playing are refined, a viola of the orchestra is easily heard in the first movement. 2 CDs + 2 CDs + 1CD: $69 + $69 + $39 ![]()

[#5604] Dvorak violin concerto Just listen to the opening of Dvorak violin concerto. Accordo’s playing 正過 Akiko Suwanai, his 雙音比較纏'棉'. She has a note in ~21sec 走了音. But Suwanai's cover 正過 Accordo 好多. ![]()

[#5605] Mozart Violin Sonata Just listen to Mozart violin sonata in F K376 Szeryng/Haebler - Philips Hahn/Zhu - DG As a whole, I prefer the one by Hahn/Zhu. The piece is opened firm chord. The tempo is 穩重. Their playing is clean, detail and 公整. I like Hahn’s playing of the repeated notes at ~40sec and ~43sec staccato the first time and legato the second time. The crescendo in the repeated is more obvious. In terms of recording quality, the Hahn/Zhu CD is better. Budget-wise, the Philips Duo is more affordable. ![]()

[#5607] 彩虹橋 Read the following from another thread. (Alan Novak)"

[#5608] 彩虹橋 Good morning, Eric. "Franckly" speaking, we own more or less the same CDs. I vote for Chung + Lupu too. The 1977 recording is exceptionally successful. I wonder where the recording location is. Lupu's piano comes out vividly, better than his Mozart's violin sonatas with Goldberg. Mintz + Bronfman is also worth trying. A bit too bright though. And, let's not forget Jules Delsart's arrangement of this work, played here by Du Pre and Barenboim in this 1971 Abbey Road recording. ![]()

[#5609] Franck Hi Trollope, Yes, 'Franckly' speaking, yours and mine are more or less the same. I don't have the Mintz + Bronfman but have the Grumiaux + Hajdu on LP. My 'Du Pre' is on Gemini double CD set with Chopin and Brahms. And I've another one on cello by Maisky + Argerich

[#5613] Tchaikovsky Symphony no. 4 Listen to Tchaikovsky Symphony no. 4, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra / Previn – Philips LP recorded in 1981. I can still remember in a concert many years ago, a lot of audiences were wakened up while transiting from the quiet pizzicato based 3rd movement to the full orchestral based 4th movement. I like the dialogue between different instruments in the 4th movement. If your system and the recording are good enough, you can feel the orchestra 有前有後, 有左有右. Depends on seating plan of the orchestra, you can hear violin in the front, woodwind in the middle, brass and bass drum at the back, 你一句 我一句 from different parts of the orchestra. Any other '爆既' suggestion?

[#5616] Tchaikovsky Symphony no. 4 Thanks lym hing. Is that Karajan recorded in 1970s (76 or 77)? Have you listened to his Tchaikovsky No.5 & 6 of that period? Thank you for mentioning the Denon, this disprove my impression on Denon's recording is always good. Once I've compared Suk playing Handel violin sonata in ils's shop, the same recording under Supraphon label and Denon label, the Denon one is far more superior. If my memory is correct, it is due to different 膠 material. Anyway, I have not bought that Denon finally. ![]()
