[#544] Any classical fans here? hercules, Thank you for your recommendation. I'll check it out. Actually, I do have other Bruckner's discs but they are in my 冷宮 with Mahler and Wagner. Bruckner 4 and Mahler 1 are exceptional cases. My latest concert attended was Mahler 2, played by HKPO in cultural centre...2 years ago..very boring...sleep very well Just my opinion, I prefer listen to disc in my home rather than go to attend a concert. Once I went to listen to 傅聰 in city hall, playing Mozart, a lady nearby coughed as loud as she can. The whole night was ruined and my brain, at that time, had nothing but only one thing, "When will she cough again?"

[#547] Any classical fans here? eric~~ unless the school cancelled the music report la.....and the parents don't bring small kids in concert hall, you know those student only take the ticket and program note, talk during first half and leave in mid break. and parent can let the kid listen mozart or beethoven in home with OK stereo system.. no need to be live...

[#548] Any classical fans here? Coughing is inevitable in live concerts. Many live recordings have coughing sound during the performance (those coughing sound between 2 movements will be deleted). In my opinion, going to live concerts is as important as listening to CDs. Some orchestras, or conductors, or artists, etc, don't sound like on CD when they play live (except live performance recording). Some musicians (or singers) sound great on CD because editing and multi-takes are possible, but they'll sound real bad during concerts. Besides, the atmosphere in live concerts is different....just imagine: Horowitz had been away from the stage for years, and you're one of those guys waiting in the concert hall for his first revival performance. Suddenly, the Maestro appeared on the stage and start playing....it's a historical moment! Just like being present in Berlin, witnessing the tear-down of the Wall.... Through the years, I learned to filter out noises. Especially listening to pre-war mono recordings. All those raining sounds have to be filtered out, in order to find the gems behind - the music played by past Maestros. For example, most of Kreisler's recordings need such treatment by the audience.... I like Mahler Symphonies, and had gone to concerts staging Mahler. One of those concerts I remember is the one conducted by Christoph von Dohnanyi (Cleveland Orchestra), and another one is Lorin Mazaal conducting the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Both are good performances. Live concerts for Mahler and Bruckner shouldn't be missed. They are rarely played in HK.

[#551] Any classical fans here? DL: Sure we need to listen live, but really dun go when tired and sleepy, because it's too enjoyable to sleep on that chair.. I see some people sleeping with noise in concert hall from few time already... If keep listening to histortic recording for few more minute, the noise is actually constant and the ears will adopt, the noise is less notiable than first few minutes. ar... my home is too small, if not can do some meeting and cd listening, and I kept some Music Critise and Concert program note in home....

[#555] Any classical fans here? Right. I do admit my inability to appreciate symphonic music, especially those lengthy, with winding, non-stop melodies ones. So, besides some exceptions, I am used to avoid them for years. Listening to music, at least to me, is for leisure and pleasure. One should find his/ her own comfortable way to approach it. No must or must-not. Wish one day I'll back to concert hall...hmm...Jennifer Larmore recital seems attractive:)
