| [#6003] Gilels/Wand Thanks for doctorjohn and Trazom How much per piece? I may visit TST this week. In fact, Public Library is a very good 'stock' of good CD. But, many borrower destoried CDs. I usually borrowed CD from library. So sad when discovered the CD was malfunction. |

| [#6005] Richter's Italian Concerto Hi gs, ＞＞ This is my only one Richter's Italian Concerto, so I can't make any comparison ＜＜ I have 8 CDs with Richter playing Bach's Italian Concerto. While they mean only 5 different recordings, I think they include all commercially available versions: (1) Moscow, 14 October 1948: Melodiya (Russian Piano School, Vol. 6) 74321 25178 2 / Urania SP 4208 (2) Tours, June 1991: Stradivarius 33323 (the one that you have) (3) Bochum, 21 October 1991: Live Classics LCL 402 (4) Kempen, 2 November 1991: Live Classics LCL 421 (5) Neumarkt, 8 November 1991: Philips (Richter – the Authorised Recordings) 436 613-2 / Philips (Best 100) PHCP-10571 / Philips (The Essential Richter) 454 168-2 (with Presto only) Among the four 1991 versions, you are doing fine with an ownership of the Stradivarius CD, although to me the "Andante" there (at 5'50) is an indulgence -- but how disarming it is! Now, about the 1948 version. Initial acquaintance with Richter's 1948 Italian Concerto would give one the impression that he's rushing the job (3'36 + 4'42 + 3'25); but as always, one soon finds that he is a rule unto himself. And he seldom fails to convey musical sense, in handsome style. The 20-bit transfer to CD is eminently successful. The Melodiya CD may no longer be around, and the Urania is over-priced. Happily, this version now also appears in the low price Andromeda label.  |
