[#583] Beethoven String Quartet Last night, listened to string quartet by Schubert, if compare with Beethoven, Schubert was more lyrical and sensitive but Beethoven was more authoritative. Again brilliantly played by Quartetto Italiano, their playing was refined and thoughtful. ![]()

[#585] richter I meant to say this is richter's live recording of the well tempered clavier. Truly inspiring. In his hands, the music has enormous breadth, depth and lightness as well as weight, joy and sorrow. Richter must have been satisfied with this himself....

[#589] Beethoven String Quartet Last night, listened to Tchaikovsky's symphony No.2 conducted by Muti, Italian conductor seems to have a special affinity for Tchaikovsky music, as far as I know, Abbado have already recorded a very passioante account back in 1967 with New Philharmonia Orchestra, now I could say that Muti's version was equally convincing. Tempo was fast in general, philharmonia orchestra's perfromance was breath-taking. Markevitch's version sounded cool in conparison, but they were two extremes in the wide spectrum of interpretation. ![]()

[#595] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Maria Callas was a great soprano who can presented the role she playing most vividly, but I don't like her voice, her voice was more restrained, especially when reaching for a high note. Elisabeth Schwarzkopf was another great soprano, I have a disc in which she sang few operatta arias, that disc was impressive. ![]()

[#600] What are you listening to? ( classical mus Listened to some horn music last night, Vienna horn have a more open sound when compared with modern horn, due to its difficulty, vienna horn playing now become a lost art. Although I cannot commended on the horn playing here as I do not play horn myself, I found that the horn sound was open, colorful and bold. The program was enjoyable and it included one rarity, that was Beethoven's horn sonata, the other program were the famous Horn trio by Brahms and short pieces by Schubert and Schumann. ![]()

[#601] What are you listening to? ( classical mus 邊個邊個, I have the CD version of your LP by Ashkenazy, the recording was stunning, but I would like a little bit more passion which Ashkenazy seem to be falling short. As this symphony was my favorite, I have collected four different versions, by Lorin Maazel, Ashkenazy, Ormandy and Previn respectively. I found Ormandy to be the best, and the playing of the Philadelphia Orchestra in its prime was justly famous. ![]()
