[#6361] High Definition Tape Transfers Just listen to Chopin Etudes Op. 25 no.11 & 12 played by Ashkenazy & Pollini. I prefer the Ashkenazy ones. I like Ashkenazy's 左手強而有力的主題, in addition, those single notes "主題" in the opening is also 強而有力, I think he plays them with more than one finger. Below is brief description on each of Chopins' Etudes which you may find interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chopin_etudes ![]()

[#6364] Rachmaninoff Suite No.2 Yesterday listened to three difference version of Rachmaninoff Suite No.2 for Two Pianos. 1. Great Pianists of the 20th Century Volume 15, by Lyubov Bruk & Mark Taimanov [Philips 456 736-2] 2. Rachmaninov The Piano Concertos, by Vladmir Ashkenazy & Andre Previn [Decca 6-CD box set, 455 234-2] 3. Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No.3, Suite No.2, by Martha Argerich & Nelson Freire [Philips Great 50 Recordings, 464-732-2] Below is extracted from Decca booklet “The Second Suite of 1900-01 is roughly contemporary with the Second Piano Concerto, with which it shares many features of its musical language. The gloriously active first movement draws its energy from a harmonic style which becomes ever richer until, after a blazing climax, the music dissolves into a coda of surprising peace. The virtuoso Valse which follows is another essay in controlled momentum, with pianistic devices beautifully woven into a rhythmic design. The Romance inhabits a realm of particularly deep feeling, which closing Tarantella rises to a rousing climax in which the two pianos achieve an almost orchestral torrent of sound.”. Among the three records, the sound of #1 is somehow to dry, #2 is very smooth, but only #3 will make me appreciate ‘rich’, ‘blazing climax’, ‘peace’, ‘romantic’.

[#6371] Kissin - The Gift of Music Sample a few trakcs of this DVD. Kissin's playing of Melody Gluck/Sgambatti is touching. There are virtuosity fingermovements in pieces like Liszt Trancendental Etude and "La Campanella". I only watch a few DVD and haven't watch the Lang Lang's one, but from TV ad, I guess Lang's has stronger 可觀性. ![]()
