This was quite a pity during your last audition. I would say a WE 274A/B contribute at least 70% in sound while a WE300B just contribute around 30% of the sound when they're used together. This is very true as at home I swap over my AVVT with a WE300B. sound change 5-10% with the WE at better position. However, I swap over to British 5R4, 53KU, GZ34, even mercury vapours #83. the setup totally downgraded 50%. This also obvious that a Rectifer plays a much more important role. |

| [#6714] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user It's hard to define WE274 from other rectifiers in words.. I would say them 'decisive' and 'vigor' on top of comparitive musical and live of the German's. However, it doesn't have British 3 mica 5U4 (FW4/500)'s silky poem like melody. |

For a 300B amp, without the 274, you really didn't give the 300B the right respect. But I don't agree 300B is only 5-10% better than other DHT. Even 300B of different vintages can be 20% difference in performance. Maybe operating point is different...Yet among all DHT that I own, the one I really want to hear is Ed. |

It will be really interesting to compare TFS EL34 with KT77 and diytfy's Bendix 6384 (with adaptor) etc. I can bring the Telefunken EL12 Spez as seen in the Tube Amp Show. Grey is rare, so is expensive. Some people belief that the grease one is better. M6, I think you should always go for grey one if in good conditon. I support you : ) |
