| [#6761] Beethoven Violin Sonata Gentlemen, Morning! This CD set is a must buy apart from Oistrakh / Oborin, Perlman/Ashkenaze. I just bought its Japan version (in a original LP cover sleeve) and the 24 bit remarkable remaster honestly reproduce that unique 1950's analogue trait. Graumiaux was at his peak with self-driven warmth fully complementing with Haskil charming touch. Their collaboration for mozart violin sonatas are also highly recommended!  |

| [#6769] Beethoven Violin Sonata Hercules & KH33 Mine is a old CD complete boxset for Graumiax / Haskil (5cds but deleted from catalogue long ago), it marks "stereo" as well. Yet the Philips Japan reissue mark "mono" instead. Both are the same recording made in 1956-57, but I suppose whether Philips Classics has made both mono / stereo recording simultaneously. In the late 1950s, stereo recording was still immature and experimental so some record company such like Decca and RCA made in both means. George1977 George1977 |

Yup, I bought that TDK Szeryng live in 1976 at ProSound yesterday (2CDs at HK$120, cheaper than shun cheong), his live account is inspired and in-depth, the ambience of Tokyo Bunka Kalkan is excellent without overdue reverberation, violin bowing can be heard in a crystal-like crispness with Seryng's unique warmth and grandeur. Digital sound is neither hard nor coarse, another good live album after Yundi Li at Chopin Competition. Another CD set of TDK I wish to buy is Pierre Fournier playing Bach's full Cello Suite! | [#6773] Leonskaja Hello George1977, A few months ago Warner Classics re-issued Leonskaja's complete Chopin Nocturnes in its bargain price series "apex". They were beautifully recorded in the early 90s, and the performance is richly poetic without being affected. At about $100 for the set, it's tremendous value for money. Her two Schubert sonatas Nos. 19 & 21 were recorded in 1997. The sound, in a somewhat reverberant acoustic, has less body and less full-bloodedness than that in the Chopin CDs. Indeed the recording is not abundant in the crystalline tone that is so pleasing to the ear there. I have heard praises sung about her Schubert Impromptus (also on Warner's "apex"), but I don't have that CD.  |
