| [#7421] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user THANKS FOR ALL THE PARTICIPANTS who worked very hard all the time this afternoon! In fact this is partly an enjoyment and partly a "job" to give comments to so many very different preamps in one single setting! Bravo all participants! Mrs. Jeremy, Dr. King and myself have been excluded from the tests. We tested 5 mono/ dual-mono preamps and 6 stereo preamps. The tests were conducted in BLIND. We fed in 1KHz signal to each preamp and measured Left and Right channels to ensure each preamp has fair chance to win. We used printed forms for recording marks at each test. We have Mrs. Jeremy who calculated and audited the marks scored by each preamp... Particpants are asked to give marks from 1 to 5 (1: least favorable; 5: most favorable) in 4 aspects: i) Low to mid range ii) Mid to high range iii) Soundstaging (dynamics) iv) Overall performance A summary of the marks is as follows: Group ONE (all mono / dual-mono preamps) EICO HF-65 (self-powered) : 216.8 Gnostic Tech 27M (prototype): 212.1 Marantz One : 207.0 Fisher 50C (Good All version) : 204.7 FISHER 80C : 177 Group TWO (all stereo preamps) Audio Note M7 : 246.0 Fisher 400CX : 246.0 Marantz 7C : 232.7 Radford SC22P : 225.7 EICO HF-85 : 219.8 Fisher 400CX-2 : 217.4 |

| [#7422] Leak Club for Leakies or Leak user After the party, Gingers, Edmund and myself went to Dennis' place to listen to his pair QUAD ESL-57. On the way, we chatted and I heard that in fact all the preamps tested today are all listenable and the difference is not huge, particularly in the Group TWO. While I was not among the participants, I fully agree with Dennis' statement! |
